I want to change my windshield rubber on a 40 Ford, have a new Drake rubber. looking for someone in the Atlanta, GA area
You can do it yourself with a helper. I did mine 40 years ago using a DRAKE rubber. seal. My car is a coupe. Do not use silicone sealant you find at Lowes or Home Dept.to seal the glass as it doesn't work. Use the correct glass sealer. I believe a helper on the inside pushing against the glass keeping pressure on as another person on the outside pulls a cord out lifting the rubber gasket over the "pinched" area of the windshield. I just did a headliner on my 1940 so I had to cut out the rubber gaskets on the quarter windows and rear windows, so after I finished the headliner install I put new gaskets on the quarter windows (easily installed, without having to lift a rubber flap over the body). The rear windows usually require 2 people but I was able to do it by myself with a little persuasion and soapy/Windex spray to release the cord. Just make sure you push the gasket/glass into the opening from the inside so it is close to seating before using the cord to lift the outer flap.
