I know that my project is a little newer than the cut-off date for this forum, but I need some ideas that I'm sure have been dealt with many times before by members here. I've got a '68 Ford F100 SWB pickup with a 7" chop. I'm getting started making up a list of parts needed and things to do to get it put together. One of the things I'm wondering about is how to get the windshield wipers functional. Obviously, the stock pieces are way too long....and they don't appear to be something that could be shortened and still work right. So can someone give me some ideas on how to approach this? Are there wiper arm designs for certain vehicles with a similar spline count that might be better suited to shortening, or maybe a vendor with something I could check out? Thanks!
use the p*** side arm (lenghtened) only limit travel and a widedriver side swipe can be achieved other wise a 6inch swipe is a joke rainx rainx paperdog
Hmm....Your little truck is ..interesting... I think wipers on a 6inch windshield will prove to be unnessesary. I would worry about getting the truck running then see if you REALLY had to have wipers. Here is a shot of my old 68. I have a soft spot for the 67-72s.... -Abone.
I have to admit I was wondering whether it would even be necessary to install wipers, but since the truck will probably see a lot of street time, I figured it's better to have 'em and not need 'em than need 'em and not have 'em. As for the gl***....I know that you're supposed to chop to fit the already cut-down gl***, but in this case the chop was already done when I bought the truck, and at the price I paid, I figured it was worth the gamble. I discussed this with the seller before the purchase and he said he was aware of that, since he'd done a number of vehicle chops before, so the chop was done in a way where a cut-down version of the stock windshield would work. (Of course, that might have just been his 'salesmanship' at work...but I'm up for the challenge.) I've got a half-dozen used windshields to practice cutting with, so I guess I'm going to get an education. In fact, I've been doing some research on this and thought I was set on going with the sand-blast method until I read this thread here at H.A.M.B. last night....and since the second method seems a little more promising, I'm going to try that first. abone: That's a sharp-looking ride! I'm going to be lowering mine, though probably not quite that much, since it'll be a driver. Did you use a MII front suspension?
get the gl*** figured out first. i think the seller fed you a line of ********. the curve of the gl*** changes from bottom to top, so if the top of the window opening wasn't reshaped to fit the different curve, it ain't gonna work. another vote for rainx.
I havent run wipers in.....well, ever on my chopped 49... Rainx I apply it bout every 2-3 months, and live in florida I've been in some ultra nasty rain storms (read, I drove the truck in one of the canes that ran through...3 inches of rain in an hour) and still could see crystal clear.
i put marine wipers on my 45 GMC..the arms are adjustable in length and the blads can be cut to length..and there nice poloshed stainless to...
