Question Guys . I bought a 7:1 high comp alum head for my basicly stock 1928 4 banger.. The question is, is this too high of compression for this motor ? I am not looking to run it hard just want to be able to stay up with traffic. Oh yeah it only has about 3500 miles on motor,,,Thanks Tim

  2. Thats pretty high for a babbit engine

Go for it..Babbit will stand 10-1 reliabliy.

  5. :rolleyes:I agree with Pete, the babbitt will take it. A counterbalanced crank would help. However, if you don't put a harmonic damper on the nose of the crank in any modified Ford "banger", sooner, or later you're going to brake the crank ('specially if you take it much over 2500 to 3000 r.p.m.). And, it'll break back at, or around the rear main. Mine broke just in front of the flange.
    "been there, done that!"

  6. Were can you get a harmonic balancer for one Old Dawg?

  7. A modified SBC Harmonic Damper is mostly used. Mine was done by Jay Steel of Taylor Engine in Whittier, California. His phone is 562-698-7231. If you have a specialty crank (mine was done by Joe Panek at Roto-Fazee in Torrance,CA), Jay'll want to know what the specs. of the nose are. :)
