The iconic image that comes to mind when you think of wings on a car - the 1959 Cadillac Coupe DeVille. How did this style come about? What's the point and what other cars do you ***ociate with wings? More on the Cadillac here: http://americancl***icars.com/cadillac-coupe-deville/
My understanding is that after WW2, the public was fascinated by airplanes and the wings gravitated into car designs.
I read somewhere that the first Caddy fins were inspired by the P38 tail, and the later ones by the F86 Sabre.
I'm not meaning to give you a hard time, but, it commonly happens that judging from the content of the question, the answer will not be understood. And, as pointed out in a previous reply, above, they are FINS. Not wings. Maybe you should sit back and read, study, digest. So much to learn here. Hang in there, you'll get it. There was a time when even us old farts didn't know much, And, we still don't!! (smiling) By the way......WELCOME!!
In the 60s, a neighbor, John Johnson, had a Yellow 59 Caddy convertible. He was a retired Air Force pilot and a really nice guy. He used to pay us to help polish the chrome. He was an airline pilot who also flew charters in a single engine 4 seater. He died in a plane crash due to icing. Two of his p***engers survived with frostbite because the plane wasn't found until 6 hours after the crash. John and the other p***enger were alive and talking after the crash and may have survived if they had been found sooner.
