Hey guys going to be making my windshield frame for my 23 roadster, just wondering if anyone knows where to buy the u chanelled tubing that the windshield frame is made of ( similar to the original) And if anyone has done this before could you give me some tips for doing this so it is safe and sturdy. I am using the stock stubby posts that are one piece and have the round piece attached so you can mount the lanterns, Please help me I am totally lost. Thanks in advance, Steve.
I bought some of that tubing several years ago to do my "29 with, dont remember where...but in the long run,it would be better to buy an unchromed frame from Speedway and chop to your desired height...Probably be cheaper too!
I'm getting ready to make one for a tee and was thinking about using conduit and cutting the "Slot" using my grinder with duel cut off wheels spaced apart the thickness of the glass, then building a fixture to hold it and a guide for the conduit or welding tabs on the conduit to keep it from rolling any and feed it through the cut-off wheels like you would a table saw or radial arm saw..
Maybe Speedway{MrRoadster} would sell some straight sticks of it..Never hurts to ask...Yet you still have welding, mounting holes that need backing, provision for bolting top on after glass is installed..keeping it from warping during welding....On and on...been there done that.........
I would love to see some detailed pics of your windshield during the build, that would be a great help.
Better yet if it works , ill just cut ya some . The real challenge might be with the "curve" in the bottom piece. The Tee i'm building has a Kustom build dash which is straight from post to post and was going to be three pieces with the top edge of the glass exposed.
Wow thats very kind of you, that would be fantastik! On a 23 roadster isnt the bottom of the windshield from post to post square and the top half rounded? Im just going to be making the bottom half of the windshield so essentially it will only be about 12 inches or so. Unfortunately my body is glass and its pretty shitty, any ideas on how to strengthen the posts when mounting them to the body? Thanks again for your offer, i hope you have a very merry christmas and a happy new year.
Oh yeah forgot to mention if it works and you end up cutting the tubing, please let me know what I owe you for the material and shipping of course, Steve.
