So I have been doing bikes for the last year and am bored with it so I traded the softail for a new Hot Rod project and I really need to make room for her. Holy ****! it is nuts how much misc. **** you can pile up around the walls of your garage. So I figured it was time to make room for the new girl to arrive and a simple task turned into a two day extravaganda and I still have **** all over the garage floor. Any body got any tips on how to stuff 20 years worth of Harley and Hot Rod parts a Harley touring bike and a 27 T in a single car garage?

Got enough height to put in a loft storage area in the front and side?

What I did was bought a dozen big Rubbermaid plastic tubs and built shelving around the perimeter walls of the garage out of 2x4's and plywood just deep enough to hold the tubs, and just far enough from the ceiling to fit the height of the tubs...then I took clear plastic binder pages that hold a sheet of paper, used double sided tape to mount the plastic binder page to each tub, labeled what was in each tub on a sheet of paper and slid it in the binder page...now all of the tubs are full, off the floor and referenced so you know which tub to pull down for which specific part...yeah, I might be a little **** about it, but it worked well enough to stuff $6k worth of nickel and dime parts into a tiny garage...and used zero floor space...and the shelves were sturdy enough to store LOTS of weight...

Is that.."down the road from you?" or "over the way a piece"? "Up yonder"?

Is it just a tad? Or is it just a smidgen? "A hoot and a hollar away"?

Can I cross the creek if it's a gully washer? Or "the creek is a frog choker", to get there?

I use a bunch of these tubs! They stack on top of each other really well. Make some heavy, and some light. You can stack 'em 3 or 4 high, so long as you don't overload the lid of the bottom one. I just use duct tape and a sharpie, and mark what's in 'em. They can make quick organization of a horrible mess in a pretty short time. And they're pretty cheap - like $4-5 each.

Other than that, take advantage of space that you may not think of. Underneath your rolling toolbox, for instance, is good space. Slide some big stuff under that. Slide some stuff under the car if you have to.

    Good luck,
    Pete

Well I think the tubs were the best idea. I went to the dollar store and got them for 5 bucks apeice, I built some wood framing and hung it on the wall so that I can put my jack stand and jacks under the cabinetry. It worked great. Thanks guys, I would have never thought about that. Man now if I could just open the damn door and see the sun shining and gr*** growing. I have been setting in my chair drinking beer and admire two days worth of cleaning.

I got a **** ton for the lincoln swap meet if I want to do that, alot of this stuff I got doubles of, I must just buy **** because it is there!

An observation, proved correct over many decades.....
Your garage...shop...is always too small. It's sorta like a blivette....ten pounds of **** in five pound bag. But, somehow we always cram it all in place. Post photos and words about your project as you progress.

I need to start a thread soon about the Lincoln Swap Meet. Will be helping with tours at the Speedway Museum the day before the Swap - Saturday, March 6th.

Here's some info I've put together so far:

2010 Lincoln, NE Swap Meet + Speedway Museum Tours – Mar. 6/7
