Kind of new around here, so I figured I'd start with some pics of one of this winters goals to finish. I'd hoped to finish it last spring but after waiting 3 months for the wrong stroker kit to show up, mothballed it for the summer. So far, I built the blower, manifold, main cap supports, modified the oil pan and oil system, and relieved the block. Since its getting cold up here, I figured its time to dig it out and finish it up. Its a 8BA block with 59A heads, 4 1/8" stroke x 3 5/16" bore, toped off with a 4-71 sucking through a Hilborn 2 port. I'm also looking for a vertex mag, if anyone has a line one. Enjoy!
Thats realy nice!!!you dog! Why dont you run Flathead Jacks full main support, I would think that would be the way to go? Happy turkey day and keep us posted...Roach.
I'm trying to keep costs down by building all my own parts and assembliling it myself. I'ts going into a '46 ford truck.
Did you make the intake yourself ??? Or did you use an after market one. Either way it looks kick ass!!!!
Super nice project. If I ever get to do my "blown flathead" dream it will have a 4-71 on it. Been thinking about it for a long time ever since I found an article on Barney Navarro's roadster. You'll probably have yours worn out before I start mine. Frank
Can you explain your cap supports, I'm not sure what your trying to do, unless there is more to your supports. I have a blown flathead and I run a center support to the sides of the block and steel front and rear caps. All this is tied together with ARP hardware. Thanks.--TV
I did make the manifold myself. It started out as a 2x2 fenton. I made the pop off valves too. The main cap supports are a cross between billet caps and thoes crappy little aftermarket support straps. The tops of the main caps were milled flat and the support has a 5/8" fine thread allen set screw and countersunk jam nut. The bottom of the set screws have faced off flat for the maxium contact with the flat on top of the stock main cap.
Heres the cab, 75% done. 3" chop, 5" channel, flush firewall, no hood relief. I just got the frame rails done last week. There a longer copy of a '23 durant frame that started this project. 9" ford rear and f100 straight front axle narrowed 5 7/8". Old durant frame pictured with ford axles.
I don't know what set up on the front you will be running under or over, But I still think your center main should be tied into the block side walls. That center web is not very strong from the start. I have seen them blown out on many blocks. Not trying to bust your chops, just trying to help.--TV
