I get what your saying, and appreciate your critical Eye, maybe not your first two or three posts, but whatever.
I got the nose tacked together yesterday right before we took the pictures. And we really haven’t had a chance to stand back and look at it. That’s why it’s just tacked together.
Its funny Saturday morning KIRK and I had this same conversation, that, when you build something from scratch, you tend to perceive how it looks, other than how it actually looks. I always welcome first impressions, especially from someone on the outside. Now you have me intrigued. how about you post some examples of your work or PM me so I give you my email and you can send me some pics. -Matt

  3. k13 - Wasn't trying to get in a pissing match about anything, just defending Bluto (i'll go to the mat for folks who I respect). Perhaps his comments could be more constructive, but I didn't take his original comments as being un-constructive. I think that when you try to convey what you think via text, sometimes not everyone (me especially) are able to do it well.

I like the grill opening that Mac describes. Very cool. Also, I have the photo that you posted in the bowels of my computer too. I dig that look.

A couple more pics from this years Pebble...

While Leno's car isn't liked by all it does have some of the same atributes that we are talking about.

    GREAT work Matt!

That nose sort of reminds me of Edsel Ford's 1934 roadster.

Sorry I missed you last Wednesday when I stopped by.

I thought about offering my opinion while there, but no one asked me what I thought and I am not going to assume you guys are looking for my input.

if you want my opinion just ask.[/quote]
From now on Dave you can give me your opinion without asking. I did it to J Ripper when he was building his Pan. So what’s your opinion?

  8. Hey not problem. Didn't mean to make it seem like a pissing contest either. Maybe it was me and Bluto was trying to be funny and I didn't get it. Again I think he made some very good points eventually :D.

I was Just thinking... When I stumbled upon this thread, I think I stumbled In at a pretty Intersting part of the conversation... Sorry If my comment pissed anyone off. That wasnt my intention. but where I am getting at is the fact of Having the opportunity to actually Watch someone, In real Time Post progress on a build, Is a pretty awesome thing. Aspecially When the builders are making car parts out of aluminum. I thought to myself what a cool post. The pictures of the shop just got Charater and you can really tell that you all are having a great time building that car together. Thoes are the times that I will remember In the later years of my life. For me It was metalmeet, for you guys Its building the LEGION SPECIAL, and each their own. Thats what its all about. Im not trying to pamper anyones ass. But I just appretiated the fact that I had the oppertunity to watch you all do your thing. I know when I first started shaping, I would have died and went to heaven to stumble upon something like that or anything of its nature. It is a gift to be Inspired no matter what it looks like.

You aren't the only one that thought that the tall skinny grill needed balls.

I may be way off the mark, and for what its worth, i'm loving this build so far...
IF you were to go with the 2 holes for the grille, What about doing the lower hole in some sort of mesh mounted from the back and doing the bars in the upper?

Also, what about the bars horizontal instead of vertical, like the Miller examples...

Im sure I didnt describe my thoughts well, but what Im seeing in my mind is sharp...

The Miller look, horizontal bars, no oval, with nothing opened on the bottom pan.Try one of those drawings if you could.

I think the reality would be a car that looks too skinny and tubular. It needs the height to balance out the loooong hood.

Kirk, it was hard for me to even tell the difference in your photochop, even knowing what to actually look for. It is pretty subtle difference really. I will say, I kind of prefer the slight chop better in those images. But, I did go back to look at the photos with the buck to see what kind of clearance you have for the motor, etc. Seems like you have plenty of motor clearance, not sure on potential radiator height/area you night need though. However, in looking at the buck mockup again too, the lines on that look pretty damn good too and seem to flow well. So, I still can't say if chopping it would be better or an improvement. might be one of those things that you really need to see first hand and in 3D walking around it as you guys can. Probably going to be hard to make that call just from still photos and a couple of fixed angles. Looks cool either way. You guys are doing a great job on it.

I think the current design works for an early lakes streamliner.

The only way you can go with a significantly lower profile is by relocating the driveshaft first.....so you have a place to sit that is out of the wind.

Otherwise, it will look like you are riding on it, instead of in it. (there is a video of an early model T on the lakes and it looks like half the drivers body is sticking out the top)

  22. OK, So now lets get back to the story...
...and whether or not you should move ahead with the weiner shaped grill. :D

  23. It should to be fine. Kirk isn't exactly a giant!!!
