needs some advise.... I have just recently taken delivery of my 'winters championship quick change rear axle, the axles are not fitted to the rear end and i have 2 boxes with the axle bearings in. they look similar to the 9" ford were the bearings need pressing onto the shafts. my question is were do you press them too, do you go by measurements from the backing plates and brake drum assembles ? thanks for any advise/help in advance mike couch
Do you have 4 bearings? or 2 bearings and two spacers? I just went through this as well. They are spacers that you either need or don't need depending on what brakes you are runing. I'm runing the SVO disc kit and needed to install the spacers between the axle and the bearing to space the axle out from the housing. Kelly
its come with two single piece bearings( pre-packed ) and 2 spacers also a bag of bits looks like bearing retainers and bolts for the backing plates. im changing over from a 9" so was hoping to run my ford drums 11" dia and 2.5" width i think ? do i use the width of the drums so determined were to place the bearing ? mike
Check this pdf of the tech manual from Winters, it might help. http://www.wintersperformance.com/Street%20Rod%20Tech%20Manual.pdf I used the big Ford bearings, I thought they went against a shoulder on the axle. Can't remember, been a while. Be sure to put the retainers on if they're not notched. I used a bearing heater and dropped them on. (don't over do it) Still unsure, call Winters, they're pretty good with their tech line. 717-764-9844 8:30 - 5:30 EST Mon- Fri
