I was just wonder if anybody knows of a supplier of Trico wipers that sells parts, rather than investing in a new pair of arms. I got a really nice pair of wiper arms on my old F100 but one tension spring broke and I don't seem to be able to find anybody selling just parts. For the record it is 2.00" in length, 0.25" in diameter and the material thickness is 0.05" It would be nice just to be able to purchase a replacement spring and be done with it... I tried a spring I found in a bunch of old stuff, but it is too soft and the blades smear rather than wipe correctly. What do other folks do out there???
I have taken springs from other arms to replace them. Sometimes they are a b,tch. Don't have to be from same arm ,just the spring type. Also I buy or find other arms to keep around. Good luck
Yeah, I really dropped the ball on wipers, never expected something to break. If no replies for a new parts source, I guess it is time to start dealing with those parts pirates...
Hey Fifty, Our local Lowe's and Home Depot has a ton of drawers with those types of springs. But, our local small hardware store usually has more of this type of stuff than those other big box stores. Jnaki Also check out McMaster Carr or the early Ford parts stores.
I agree. Our local Ace Hardware has dozens of different sizes and if you ask the employee for help he can usually take you to the exact little drawer which has the size that you need. Good luck....
Hey Leb, One of the nicest and most well stocked Ace Hardware Stores is the one in Liberty Station in Point Loma, San Diego Harbor region. A lot of the Ace Hardware stores had makeovers, but this one place has so much stuff, it is still easy to find your items. The best parts of this place (other than plenty of stuff) are the people that work there that are so helpful and knowledgeable. Jnaki Plus, we always see a couple of hot rods in the huge parking lot. The whole Liberty Station Complex is an old 40's converted military base that has a bunch of great restaurants, shops, and businesses. What a nice way to recycle old buildings with a ton of history. What's not to like when there is a custom meatball restaurant right next door on one side and a great hamburger place on the other. Lunch anyone?
Hey thanks for the McMaster Carr idea, I will follow that up. I've tried several small Ford parts outlets for pickups around the country but no luck except to find they mostly sell new wiper arms and then blades need to be purchased separately. I've just never had to chase stuff like this before and figured somebody would sell parts. Maybe I've been left behind and the throw away society is totally with us now.
Maybe I've been left behind and the throw away society is totally with us now.[/QUOTE] Yes, the new world says if you have to make it with your own hands and it is not controlled by electronics , it doesn't exist.
I got a spring that works from an old guy who used to have a ma and pa hardware store and still had a few old stock items in his shop. It does not look that much like the original but it fits plus it seems to work and that really is all I could hope for since the manufacturer does not offer replacement parts...
