Getting close to time for the wiring part on my 40 olds. Anyone have any experience with the kits available out there. Is it worth the extra money for something like painless versus some of the cheaper brands in the mags? I tend to be a cheap bastard but I have learned that it is better to spend the money up front on some things. Thanks, Steve
Steve, I have used everybody's kits and I think the best bang for the buck is the E-Z Wire kit sold on E-Pay for under $130. It is actually very high quality for the money as compared to the $285-385 kits I have used. I have installed 3 of these with no problems. Dick
I don't know where E-Z wire stands in price range but I've installed many of them for customers. The customers garante stands with me and E-Z wire is a product I have no problem standing behind. I've never had a problem that was manufacture related. I have however had a few self inflicted ones. The product name reflects how the instalation will go if you have basic knowledge and the ability to follow instructions. The Wizzard
I bought a GearHead Kit. Paid less than 120.00. Quality is pretty good. Instructions are okay. Buy only what you need. I bought a 21 curuit, way to many freaking wires!!!!!
Thanks guys I appreciate the info. Did any of you use the harness with the small fuseblock instead of the full size GM type block? My coupe does not have a whole lot of underdash space so I was considering the smaller units. Thanks again
Anything but EZ Wire. Below average quality, below average customer relation, below average technical support, below average parts...I don't have too much good to say about this company and/or their product. If this is going to be your first wiring project, I would think twice. EZ Wire's "instructions" are completely half-assed and will have the first timer wondering what they got themselves into.
Well I used an EZ wire kit too in my Deuce and Ive never wired a car EVER. In fact, wiring and me NEVER mixed. My mates laughed at the fact that I was gonna do it "myslef" after having seen my earlier wiring attempts LOL. Still the job was easy and came out real sano, even my mates were impressed!! I think that with any kit, you need to break up the job into smaller segments and think ahead BEFORE routing any wires so that when you do cut them, you do it only once. And make sure youve got killer grounds to avoid probs down the track. When testing my setup, EVERYTHING worked on the first go. I gotta tell ya, shocked the hell outta me hehe. Rat
I used a Its A Snap harness on my 54 and it had good directions and a small cigarette sized fuse box. Very happy with it. My son also used one on his 41 Ford and he is happy with it. Price is right. I did have to call their tech and they were very good.
