Okay wether it is weird to some or not, wether sane or not , one thing I never see is vintage wire wheels even Vintiques wires (not Tru-spokes) on trucks post 1935. I want to see some pics please. Maybe a 1937 Ford with Torque Thrusts on back and wires on front. Call me crazy.

35 was the final wires on Fords. It’s not kosher in hot rodding to back date the wheels.

  4. Plus for me any 15" wire wheel looks weird and wrong....too much jammed in a small package.

Go ahead, I set it up.

Maybe I am crazy :D. You would think everything would have been tried in hot rodding.

I like things that flow, yet maybe a little twisted too.

Back in mid-to-late '70s, there was a slick black '56 F100, dropped axle, flattened springs...and a set of RED Kelsey-Hayes 15" wire wheels, (bent spoke, rare) nice black Firestones, big & littles.
    Looked SO WRONG!!!
Older guy had it, we'd see it at the Milpitas Ford Plant swap meets, and Turlock.
It had 1.25" thick aluminum spacers on all 4, to clear the 'bell' of the wheels from the drums. Same pattern (5 on 5.5") had to dictate 3" long wheel studs!
Beautiful truck, but ugly choice of wheel match...

When I was a kid in the 70's there was a 56 Ford F100 in (I think) Truckin magazine. Black paint with flames, big window cab, chromed Jaguar rear and chrome Tru-Spoke wire wheels. It was an absolutely killer ride that I'd still love to have. I wish I could put my hands on a pic of it but couldn't find anything on google and the magazine is buried in my collection somewhere. Wires can definitely work on the right build.

Right in his opening post he said vintage wires, not Tru-Spokes. Yes, I'd think we all could appreciate some Tru-Spokes on cars and trucks. Tru-Spokes are gonna be the next big retro craze (mark my words, the 70's are coming back soon!).

:D Tru-Spokes have never grabbed me. Vintage flows through my veins I guess.

Tru-Spokes are vintage if you'd been around hot rods since the 70's. I've been looking for a set of Tru-Spokes at swap meets for the last few years. I have a wheel fetish and a nice set should be on my shelves.

I wish I knew that, I have been tripping over a set for more than 30 years and the chrome was still nice, I sold them to a cheap to young guy recently, he sandblasted them and powder coated them orange. HRP

Hard not to oblige, Your crazy. :D

Wires don't look good on cars or trucks that they were not available when the auto was new, wire wheels on a '65 Ford truck would look odd in my humble opinion. HRP

It's a good thing I ran into this posting. I have a set of near perfect 35 wire wheels I was planning on using on my 36 pickup. I better throw them in the garbage can because I wouldn't want anyone to get sick if they were to see it.
