i currently dont have a wiring harn***. i want to wire up my 235 6 chevy ( 12 volt ) to run without the harn*** so i can move the car around . whats the easiest way to do this without burning something up . thanks
?????? The car has to have some sort of harness to run. At the very least the engine harness has to be in place. You would have to wire in a starter switch of some kind to crank it and turn it off.
yes the engine harn*** is there . i was just wanting to put a ignition switch on it & wire it direct? had it done before, a friend helped me but someone stole my coil & i cant remember how i wired it ? it was a 6 volt car ive put a 12volt 235 in it & i dont want to burn anything up
If you're just trying to move it around the shop disconnect the generator, the starter will be fine on 12 volts if it doesnt take 10 minutes of cranking. I would put a 12 volt coil on though.
yeah i bought a 12v coil the engine is 12v has an alternator . i just dont remeber how the coil was wired ?
Google search will help with many a wire question. I use it a couple times a week searching for diagrams. http://www.56cl***icchevy.com/56-chevrolet-wiring-diagram.html
coil + to the battery, coil - to the distributor. pretty darn simple. If you're gonna run it for more than a few minutes, then you might want to add a ballast resistor between the battery and the coil.
One thing to remember with coils. The + or - post that hooks to the distributor will always match the ground on the battery. If the battery is negative ground the coil will be hooked to the - post on the coil. You could either hook it up to the stock switch or you can use a universal switch or you can use a toggle switch and a push ****on. Or you can really be cheap and twist two wires together and hold the third against them to start the car but that is is getting pretty cheap there. You also need a ballast resistor in the line from the switch to the coil to keep from burning the points up.
thats what i did mr48chev. i had a ignition switch & a push ****on & i wired it direct some how but someone stole my coil & resistor & i cant remember how my buddy wired it .? before i burn something up does the resistor go between the ign & coil ? or between the coil & the dist ? thanks for the help guys
between ignition switch and coil, but it would probably work the other way too....except it would be hard to byp*** it for starting (when you get the thing ready to drive)
