Hello, I have acquired a vintage Westach model 35S, 6 volt tachometer. I want to use this tach in a 1950 Ford coupe with a flathead V8 that has the stock 6 volt positive ground ignition system. The tach has three wiring studs on the back marked NEG, POS (scraped off for some reason), and DIST. I believe the NEG would go to the negative side "-" of the coil, POS to ground, and DIST would go on the "+" wire from the coil to the distributor. Can anyone confirm that this wiring arrangement is accurate and correct for this tach in a 6 volt positive ground ignition system? Please see photos and sketch. Thank you in advance.
I reached out to the tech person at Westach, asking him if my wiring diagram assumption was correct. This was his response. Not sure at all. But guessing it was intentional to remove the "POS" connection. Just go across the coil, try it both ways. That is how we make the 6 volt pos ground tachs work today so I imagine it might be the same for that one. Thank you Pete Westberg Mfg Inc Westach.com So it seems like Westach is not even sure. I believe that the new Westach tachs have two wires on them, but my old one has connections for three wires. Does anyone have an old wiring diagram?
