I am rewiring the Edsel and i am using a American Autowire kit, But i want to retain the Factory headlight switch.

i have the factory wiring diagram but i have some questions on how to wire it.

I am wondering about the feed for power to the swtich, if i am looking at this correct the Headlight switch has 2 Power feeds from what i think is a circuit breaker. is this right? The wires i am wondering about is the B-O wire coming out of the "circuit breaker" and the Y-R and the G wire. Are they Power feeds?

Really desperate for some insight in this matter. All help is appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Dakota,

Im no expert, but could that be a 3(or 4) prong relay? I know brake switch and turn signals go through that kind of circuit, at least it did with my Rebel Wire kit.

Sorry I dont have a better answer

That diagram hurts my head, but all the older Fords and most others had 2 power feeds.
Switch is essentially 2 in one, with two separate moving blocks of contacts within.
Top plastic plate on switch is likely easier to figgerout than the diagram...probably you will see 2 terminals marked B, others H, T, P and like that.
I usually "rebuild" both the main switch and the dimmer on old cars...pry back the tabs on HL switch, bend the die cast a bit on dimmer. Disassemble carefully, wash everything in thinner, polish the cantacts a bit, reassemble with light grease on everything that moves. Usually there is nothing wrong in there but lots of dirt, and the OEM switches are very good quality...once clean, they will be ready for the next 50 years.

It looks like the positive power feed is the B-O and the Y-R on the left side middle of the page. The two terminals look like they are from the fuse panel and are on two separate fuses. The would be considered two separate circuits.

I would rig up a temporary power feed with 5 amp fuses one feeding the B-O and one feeding the Y-R. Use 22 gauge wire and when you power up the system feel the 22 gauge for heat and smoke. If you power up ok with no smoke or blown 5 amp fuses, start operating the switches and see if everything is working proper.

Second look - It may be the B-O is the only feed. Power it up first and if the glove box lamp or brake lights are working stop there.

b-o looks to be feed for headlights
Y-R looks to be feed for parking, tail, and instrument lamps.

Looks to be two fuses which may be part of the switch or part of the fuse panel.

Get out your mutli-meter and figure it out. Trying to sort out that diagram will give you a headache.

Just follow the letters on top of the switch. No pain.

got it figured out. There are 2 incoming to power the wire. the source is 2 self resetting circuit breakers, a 12amp and a 18amp. thats what the little thingy is on the side. they are powered from the battery. The 18 amp powers the headlight side alone, the 12 amp is for everything else.

I cant just check it out cause i have had issues and i am wiring this almost from scratch, i cant compare to the existing wqitring cause there is none.
