Getting ready to start the wiring process on my Model A coupe and need some advise. I’m leaving the original gas tank in place for now so I have limited space under the dash. I have not seen anybody mount the fuse panel under the seat, reason? Any other pointers will be greatly appreciated. Also thinking of an adjuster for the seat so i can move it backwards and a hinge to so I can fold the seat forward to get at the fuse block. Sent from my iPad using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I've seen them under the seat, as well I've seen them on the bulkhead between the passenger compartment snd trunk/rumble seat area. Good luck...good looking project
On Model A's, I always put the fuse block on the firewall, left side , in the corner, just below the tank, works for me just fine and I have a size 15 shoe!
You can mount the fuse block anywhere you want, but circuit length is very important. Most if not all of your higher-amp circuits are in the front of the car, moving the panel away from there may require that you increase wire sizes to prevent excessive voltage drop. Adding 3-4 feet or more of additional wire can easily cause too much drop on these 12V circuits. The OEMs mount them at the firewall to reduce required wire size, and more importantly to them, harness cost.
First off cool looking ride. I plan to mount my wiring under the seat of my channelled roadster. Trying to get between the seat and floor under the dash I feel would be a pain. I pulled a few pictures off the web for ideas.
A lot of the time I run the wiring harness and fuse panel on the passenger side. No steering and foot pedals in the way. Also the wiring kits that use mini fuses are very compact. Sent from my SM-T350 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Thanks for everybody’s responses, I like the underseat option with the starter selonoid very close on the passenger side. Never thought about the drivers side kick panel, great idea which I will have to explore mounting options. Nice to hear from the “Pro’s “ on this site. Sent from my iPad using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
FYI, this is my first Model A, it’s an all steel full fendered stock body car with very little rust ,always been a muscle car to tri five guy. Been very enjoyable process learning new things. Sent from my iPad using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Not to change the subject or hijack the thread but I came across this idea in a 70s street rodder book for headlight turn signal combo.
http://www.logolites.com/products/a-plate/ This is what I used, a bit pricey, but it bolts right up to the existing junction box holes and has some expansion.
