Wiring problem

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by voodoo, Dec 21, 2005.

  1. I've replaced some hacked up wiring on my '56 Dodge. I ran new wires to the coil and dist. The problem I now have is that it won't shut off. It starts and everything works. Turn the key off and it still has power to the coil. Unplug the coil wire and it no longer has power. I guess that I left something off or undone. Any suggestions? Thanks...

You have the positive of the coil to a constant, not key switched lead.

Main power goes to the ignition switch, from there it powers the coil directly.
You didnt say whether you replace All the wiring but by the sounds of it you just replace some wiring from the ignition to the coil and thats all.
If it worked fine before then I would suspect you had incorrectly wired the ignition switch by crossing your main power wire to the coil wire. This will run direct feed to the coil and not shut it down.
