i think that is the key in just about ANY situation, here in MN or in WI... in a nutshell . . .

"there WERE NO safety guidlines back then!"

i rode with a bud of mine two years ago or so,,, cant remember if it was here in MN or back home... he an i were riding in a roadster w/ no seat belts and got pulled over for chirpin the tires off a stopsign... cop wrote us both up for the seatbelt thing... "these things didnt HAVE seatbelts officer, so why should i be expected to have one on if the car didnt COME with them?"

"tell it to the judge" so we ended up callin the DA about it, told em what we were driving and such... the DA laughed and tore the **** up.

its all about interpretation, and Cop Boredom Level... if you got a high CBL, you got a cop that needs to find the local Dunkin Doghnuts or a nice cup o starbucks and chill.

Thanks guys. Curt(OG 001) got me straight and what needs to be done to resolve the problem. I have to try and set up an appointment to meet with the officer to clarify with him the bumper and fender law, I think he is a little cloudy on it :) .

RacerRick. I have it registered with the original ***le as a 1930 Ford in the catagory "street modified". Which means it's been modified from stock but does not fall under the "homemade" or "special construction" guidelines but more the stock guidelines.

As Curt(OG 001) said in an earlier post read Trans 305.

    Thanks again Curt.

I've travelled through WI and have experienced problems with the officiers. Even though I live in Iowa and abide by most of the Iowa laws and they still h***le me. I run DOT approved taillights on my pickup that even came from Chevrolet production vehicle, but WI does not like them. The taillights are the digital third brake lights from Astros, Blazers, Suburabans, Tahoes, etc... The tell me they are not bright enough. But they do light up blood red when they are lit. I've added the same for a third brake light, so far they did not stop me, maybe I just got lucky this time through WI to got to the HCPU.
I've tried not to argue with them, but just plead my case. I have lied to them and told them the truck was this way when I bought it and I don't know to fix it without paying too much $$ for the body work.
One officers reponse was, "When in Rome, do as the Romans do." Obviously he was not going to argue.
Sometimes I think they get bored if the Donut shop isn't open!!

I dont understand, from the sounds of your replys if you buy a car in 2005, perhaps a 34 ford, and you hace the ***le changed to your name and re-new registration, then you have to modify it to meet CURRENT laws / regulations?

    I dont get it?

Mn is very laxed on vehicle laws, i drive my fenderless 34 p/u everyday, rain or shine, mn is a fair weather fender law state, meaning if it isnt raining you dnt have to have fenders, i drive mine in the rain all the time shooting big rooster tails in the air and see cops all the time, they never bother me a bit, in mn if a car is 20 years old or more you dont have to have a front liscence plate, a cop asked me where my liscence plate was one day as i was driving by, and i replied "on the back where it belongs!!" and then muttered ***hole behind my breath!!

I got pulled over jsut north of Morris Il on 47 on the way to the pile up this year, wasnt doing anything wrong, pipes were capped off, all my lites blinkers etc etc were fine, he said he pulled me over cause i didnt have side dual side mirrors!! that was funny, he said he let me off with a warning. Im glad it was me that got pulled over and not Bobbleed or Max Wedge who were in front of me, there cars were less legal than mine i think, a bit noisier!

It seems the the WI state troupers are really the only ones with the problem. I have never had any problems with equipment violations with city or county guys, just the ***hole state guys who think they know it all! Most of them probably know less of the laws than a lot of us do.

The thing that really gets me is the *******s NEVER pull the Harley guys over who are SUPER loud and annoying and most always drunk driving on a Sat afternoon. Or the redneck shortbox half ton extended cab chevy guys with cheap *** straight pipes out the back that rap them at every corner. They are the real noise and equipment violation problem, not the few rat rods out there. We just stick out more because there are fewer of us. Next time some trouper pulls you over threaten harr***ment when he doesn't go after the 16 loud harleys that p*** you while he is reading up on the law and writing you warnings.
