He doesn't need your money. Not to say he won't take it though. I've been there several times. Bought a few small things. Didn't piss about the prices that I thought were a bit high. Figured keeping on his good side may pay off later. The day's entertainment was worth something also.

He's always been pleasant, never harsh or dismissive. Just a bit high priced.

If you go, call ahead, bring a lunch. I believe he has near 160 acres there. That wrecker IS impressive! Could probably tow the county around if he could get a good enough grip on it.

A lot of how a yard owner treats you is all in your attitude. Act like a know it all who's being ripped off and the owner is not going to be friendly. If some of you take the time to read this entire thread you'll find more than one person who hasn't had any problem with Carl.

I asked him about the trunk lid off of a 46-48(?) Ford coupe, being as nice as I could, he told me he could of sold that a hundred times and then stormed off acting mad:confused:.

No dude sorry, I was there when you asked him and I dont know why he acted like that. He kinda blew you off before you were done asking about it. You were completely in the right. He is just that way sometimes. Thats why im so light footed when Im around him.

I meant people that act like dicks and go around like they know everything, and everything has a price. Ive been out there when some arogaunt SOB came out to get something for a Mopar muscle car and acted like it was walmart. He saw that there was a piece he wanted and acted like it was outragous that it wouldnt be for sale.

  7. So where is a pic of this wrecker? Got to love giant mechanical stuff. post one up if you got one.

  8. Everything does have a price, just when these pricks come around they find it's more money than all of them have put together.

  9. Yea these ol guys are gonna take em with them when they go would be my guess.

The key to a good junkyard is that they have at least one 50's car converted to a truck.

The problem is there are guys like that in all areas of the car hobby, including here. Stop and give this some thought. If you had 30-40 years or more listening to some of the bullshit these guys hear, you'd be hard to get along with sometimes also

I was there last summer. I walked around for about 3 hours and snapped a few pictures and BS'ed with the owner some. He wouldn't give me a price on anything though- it was all "make me an offer".

  15. Yeah, we've got a yard like that (full of older cars) here in Terre Haute too. The place has been there forever and is huge, but the guy that runs it treats "customers" like idiots, and acts like he's put out because you walked thru his door. Sometimes he's okay and other times he tells you to leave. Hell of a way to run a business, huh?

So how much did you give for the 32 5-window body and what has become of it.

That "Ranchero" with the bedside doors, I could have sworn that used to be in the Rohners junkyard in Wilmar, MN a few years ago...it looks IDENTICAL to the POS one that was there...

Just got off the phone with him, super nice guy! sometimes its all in the tact you take. i know in dealing with people on a daily basis it can get really tiring and ive only been doing it for 15 years, imagine what these guys have had to deal with.

i think you need to realize where these people are coming from and not come off as a prick. when i talked to him i was straight forward, brief with my automotive past and honest about what i need. he was really cool actually, and his over the phone quotes were quite reasonable. i plan to head up there when the weather gets nicer and get what i need, he actually invited me up to bullshit about cars and hot rods this summer...
