What would you love to see in "The Rodders Journal"?

I’m sure they don’t need my input….they sure do a outstandingly great job in most respects already. Id bet some of this if not all is on someone’s mind there anyways….but you never know … maybe not … maybe they’ll read this? and get an idea or two.

So what would you like to see ?
Who would you like to see interviewed before there gone?

Number one on my list is
    Done Spencer
A very detailed account of the mans accomplishments including an in depth look at THE ROADSTER and the T bird. (could be a two part deal)

    Two… Clif Inman Chrysler http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=27110&highlight=inman
In my mind the best later model custom on the planet and that’s sayin a lot coming from me (not a mopar guy)
I believe there’s a cool story there to…..to bad the cars seldom seen….make em get it out.

Three ….. Would be a good long Dick Bertolucci interview.
Yes I know its been covered in a few places a little bit a few times….but I think it needs to be in TRJ with all the photos of all the cars ….. and a look at the 38 how it sits today (I think he working on it)

So what do ya got??……….no drama here!!……..start your own drama thread!!

  2. I would love them take a very deep look and interview some of the people who have been investigating this topic for years now and take in the facts and the proof and show it to the masses. Also of coarse interview the old timers (if they are still alive) The topic im talking about is of coarse the very first chopped 49 mercury. Which we now know isnt the one that people have always thought it was, thanks to some history changing photos that were released. I know how most people dont like to rock the boat,so it probably will never be considered. Thats ok though I have a prediction for the Custom building at this years GNRS ....... the water is going to be Very Choppy that weekend.

I'd like to see a comprehensive article on the Satan Coupe/Devil Deuce to see if that perhaps fishes the original out of hiding.

Image Article on Sunday At Niagara Drag Strip

Complete and detailed Article on Russetta Timing Association and a few of their cars.

    Pontiac Hemi article

    Early Chevy V8 tribute article....hehe!

  4. id like to see an annual 53-60 cars issue theres not enough coverage of these cars since custom rodder went away in my opinion

I've always enjoyed the roadtrip stories. Maybe a little more frequently.

I would love to see some in depth early Custom Car and Custom Builder articles with LOTS of photos.
I love the large full spread photos.... but a lot of small photos on the spread always makes my blood flow FASTER!!!
I would like to see the early customs from the 1940's and I think there are a lot of good articles to be filled with those cars, and the builders and owners of that era.

I would love to see some well documented articles on Harry Westergard, Dick Bertolucci (mentioned here before) early Barris years, Bistagne brothers, Jimmy Summers, etc.
There are still a lot of old timers that could be interviewed who where there at the time there guys where performing what they did best. They should be interviewed before it is to late.

I also would love to see some more articles on the snapshot albums some of these old timers have... just scans of the whole pages, to give in impression on how it was back then. Preferably Custom Cars of coarse... but Hot Rods and Lake racing will do to. I just love the looks of those black pages with the photo corners and the old photo borders and writing in light pencils. Just a couple of spreads with those each issue... Would be nice.

  7. Ten page story on Squeak Bell. The man, the cars, the endless funny stories and adventures. You don't have to be dead or close to the grave to be a legend.

Also a photo study of a Brian Bass build.

How about a profile on Ryan Cochran. Hell of a success story there! Car pics will be great too.

I'd love to see the story of So Cal from 1950-1960 (or 60-70) in one article told from people living in different suburbs: Bellflower, Pamona, Saugus, Long Beach, Hollywood, Van Nuys, Sylmar, etc.

I listen to my dad's stories, then I hear my uncle's stories and they're all so intriguing because altogether, they paint the big picture and define the culture. Just sayin'.

  9. Tom Branch's roadster

How about some of Fabian's work?

    Kuggaz (spelling?) roadster

Steve Gilligan (Couverkid)'s chopped/channeled full fendered deuce 5W...his Dad's orange 5W would also work

    Kennedy Brother's

If we're going to be interveiwing people, how about Roy Fjastad, he was the first one to make re-production '32 frames and founded the Deuce Factory. Not to mention having built over 200 top fuel chassis during the '60s and '70's. He had several interesting '32's.

Stone Woods Cook race team history

Big Willie Robinson and the Brotherhood of Street Racers (too late?)

    Steve Reyes

    Gray Baskerville

And really, is it asking too much to have an issue without a '32 Ford featured in it? I mean c'mon... they're beautiful, but TRJ is already a 'Deuce book' each quarter, the 75 issue is just more of them...

    That's my one gripe. :) :)

An article on chaps like Axle would be splendid. Seems to be doing a lot these days - bringing together cars and music for all of us diehards to enjoy.

An article on Sir John Cobb. At a time when cars went 55 mph downhill, he managed to reach 368 mph at Bonneville.

A proper article on Europe's Roddin scene in the past 30 years.

I think since all the fluff on LIVE WIRE has died down it should get it's time behind Steve Coonan's Lens. Would make for a really nice spread.

I think Tom Branch's roadster would be a good idea also.

    Mr. Model T's roadster

Yankee Mike's '32 Roadster since it's the nicest I've seen.

An article on the elusive Halibrand Non Quickie rearend.

    I wholeheartedly agree.
I like their coverage of the early dry lakes/racing stuff (nearly) as much as anybody, but it seems like that is becoming too much of a 'go-to page filler' standard for them & it is getting a little stale issue after issue.
CUSTOMS on the otherhand... they could fill every damn page with early custom stuff and I'd never get bored.

How about a 3-4 page feature in each issue of a small, up-and-coming shop that features a short bio and a few projects they are working on?

How about a 3-4 page feature in each issue of a club (or even just a group of friends) with coverage of their cars and projects? Would appreciate it if they're not all from Los Angeles. :)

One of the monthlys rags use to do a garage scene type of thing. Pick an average Joe-type builder and do a profile.

I'm sure TRJ would have no problem profile someone a little better than your average Joe, but someone other than Brizio or the other guys that seem to get HEAVY rotation in their mag.
