I believe your correct (im only missing #4 & its not in there)
There’s quite a few obvious ones missing so far…..kinda like a hot chick that smiles and has a front tooth missing.
Maybe its because the hero cars have been covered elsewhere?

I've read what everybody's said so far, and I agree with just about all of it. Especially the Vulcans' Vicky, Gypsy Rose, Doane Spenser, young builders, etc. I did Cliff Inman's Chrysler, Doane's T-Bird, Dick Bertolucci, Harry Westergard, and several others in R&C, plus the full story on Doane's '32 in Automobile Quarterly (which I just learned is selling back issues), but all these could be visited again.

The point is, you need to tell these things to Steve Coonan. I've got a long "to do" story list, but there are only so many pages per issue, and four issues a year.

Actually, I've picked up a few leads here to track down for the next volume of Lost Hot Rods, which I've just gotten the OK from CarTech publishers to start.

    I'll keep reading.

I cant remember who ran it, but around 61 or 62 there was a full race red 28-29 roadster on the cover of car craft, way set back 331 hemi, and it had the clay smith woodpecker on the radiator shell. Slick car, BTW does it still exhist???

Customs... like it was said before.

Here are a few samples of cars I would love to see featured in the Future.

Jimmy Summers 1940 Mercury. Perhaps a two part article. One on the past and one on the restored car (in a year or two from now) The historic part could have some side bars showing other cars done by Jimmy.

I know there would be some really great interest in a full feature in the early custom car based on a 1934 Ford Roadster built for Wes Collins. I have heard that there is some great material on this car.

Some early Barris creations as the Matranga 1940 Merc, and the Jesse Lopez 1941 Ford. I know that photos have been seen of these two milestones. But I also know that there is a LOT more material out there from these two cars. And at least Jesse is still around to tell the story. And of coarse both of these articles could have some side bars showing the Barris shop and other creations.

And of coarse a full article on the Jack Stewart 1941 Ford... after our research trip I know there is enough material for a nicely filled article on the car, the owners and its history...

It will have ads if they do it!
There is just no other way to do this quality work year after year without the ads!

A comprehensive article on Doane Spencer, agreed (too late for an interview, though)

A biography and work history of Ed Winfield

    More customs, yes

    Fewer '32s, yes

More of anything by Pat Ganahl.

  14. without reading through them all to see if they`ve been featured or not i reckon the Tardels would make a great feature....both make pretty stunning cars and like mentioned above Brian Bass would be a good one too....maybe the austin speedshop as well

    Go Kustom Go!
More customs and custom history please :)
Teach us more about the old builders and shops that were too early in the business to get any magazine ink. I would also love to read more about the more unknown builders and shops of the late 1940s and the 1950s such as Jay Everett, Bear's Custom Shop, Link's Custom Shop, Gates Auto Body, "Kenny's Garage" in Los Angeles, "Dick's Body Shop" in Long Beach, Jay Johnston, Wirth Body Shop, Studio Custom Auto Body Shop, House of Custom, Toigo's......the list is long. Many of the guys are still around, and they have loads of unwritten information to share, and scrapbooks filled with photos. If I didn't live on the other side of the world I would have done it myself :)

Now that I've got the custom guys rolling....I have to be more specific, hopefully Steve, or Jay will be reading this!!!!
I'd like to see an article on the Barris shop employees! You are always catching a name here or there, in magazine articles, but how about some more personal info. AND their cars! Sozogni, Carr, DeCarr, all had show stopping customs!
Link Paola..and Duane Spencer's great stories about working there.
Donn Lowe's shop, for a modern custom guy's interpretation.
A comprehensive account of Lee Pratt's work! Or Gary Minor's, or Frank Livingston's.
Some more East Coast stuff. how about East COast custom guys for the 50's. Yeah some of it was outrageous, far-out, even hideous! Marratta, the Bernardo Bros, Les Cove.
Modern East guys like Cecil Proffit, Barry Mazza, Gary Chop-it Fioto, John Pazsik, Bob Ida, Murphy and the Striper, Richard Glymph.
Midwest shops...John Keouw, Taylor's House of Kolor (KY), Mile Mesa, Wade Hughes, Glenn Patrick (Patrick Bros.?) Choptop Charlie Brewer. Jim Walker's collection...or Jack Walker's.
Just off the top of my head...there's more!

Well Chris that is quite the compliment but I dont think people want to see 32 fords from what I am reading. Guess me and pops are out.I think father son articles would be cool. Me and my dad both have 32 coupes,40 coupes,40 pickups,40 merc convertibles.I think something like that would make a neat article in any magazine( or not).More family stuff as alot of us are 2nd and 3rd generation hot rodders.

I'm quite willing to put up with the 4 pages of ads in TRJ. most mags nowadays are better than 1/2 ads & the rest is crap. TRJ is well worth the added $$ to get a book that nice.

Another one that springs to mind, how about a history on Jack Williams and Syndicate Scuderia?

I agree, Tardel would be fantastic. Maybe even a 2 parter.

You can't complain about the ads and the mag costing $15. Look at the paper. Look at the quality of the printing. Then look at the Street Rodder Premium and tell me you can't tell the difference in quality (not content).

I like the artist features too. And after they get through some more of the greats, I'd like to nominate myself. Hahaha! :D

I am one of the guys that is "enough with the '32's already" but I would sure like to see more of your car. Nobody builds channelled full fendered cars anymore, its all highboys. Neat car.

:) YES Please! ,,, I want MORE of the same,, More Customs & Kustoms !! THANKS !!

  29. Bi monthly rather than quarterly is what I would like to see. Not sure if it would be feasible with the amount of work that must go into every issue but it sure seems like a long wait between issues.

Oh and I always want to see more customs.
