hey guys, Working on a project and havnt got some of the parts in hand and thought you may be able to help me. I'm wanting some measurements from a ford wishbone ball socket/cover/ clam shell/cap Not sure what to call it, a turtle? Lol This thing We on the same page now? I'm needing the size of the holes the bolts go threw and how far apart they are from each other. I'm building a bracket to locate the end of the wishbone with a notch for the ball and two holes to mount a shell on either side of the ball. Clear as mud? I'm thinking they are probably a pretty standard part from A to 48. But just in case if you happen to know what the one your holding came off of include that as well. Thanks
A was small, worked steel to steel with oiling from rear main leakage. '32-48 have a rubber ball over the steel ball, pretty sure there are two sizes with larger after maybe '41 or so...
Good to know! My wishbone is a 46-8 so I guess I'll need the measurement of the larger variety. Thanks Bruce!
I've always liked the simple, direct design on the A...put it under the #3 main and it's oiled regularly with no work! The leak also kept that cotter pin at the bottom from rusting...
And if you spot one that is thicker at the bolt holes, it's a Lincoln. When I dropped the bone on my 47 Lincoln, I bought a 41-48 Ford cup like pictured above, I used it on the top, and used my original Lincoln one on the bottom.
good to know! Learn something new every day about old ford stuff Quick bump to the top for the afterwork crowd
Alright decided to search eBay and found this photo on what he describes as a 41-6 ball cap. Anyone care to confirm so we're sure this is the the right measurement for that year? Figure if it's posted the next time someone has such a silly question they'll find the answer
From the ***le of the thread I thought you were looking for a hat with Wish Bone Salad dressing on it! I'm glad I read the thread, I learned something in the process! KK
Tim, here you can see the difference in the Lincoln and Ford ball caps, Lincoln on top This was my first attempt at a ball drop. It worked for a while, but was too thin of material, eventually broke. My second try used thicker steel, has held up good so far.
