Technical Wishbone forging modification

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Richie R, Sep 11, 2015.

  1. I am thinking of making a longer front wishbone for my A ch***is build.
Love to know how everybody separates the forging on each to save the inside part that fits inside the radius rods.
(Using 48 rear radius rods as front)
Any secret tricks other than carefully cutting and grinding

keep in mind those rear wishbones are thinner tubing than fronts!

Just curious why you would use a rear control arm on the front. Are you going to use the model-a front yoke for the axle? As stated, the rears were never designed to hold the front axle strength wise. Removing the forging is expertly explained by 117Harv here on the HAMB. Cutting with a thin die grinder wheel is how I have done it.

Pretty sure the wall on 48 rears is the same as model a fronts, my guess is he is making a wishbone to fit a 32 frame or A -v8 ...

I've done it before , I don't remember much of the yolk pertruding into the tube , on A's... I have welded steel to the inside of the yolk before to act as a sleeve between the two and the plug welded and zip up the seam

  6. That's it :)
running a banger engine with a auto adapted and need a longer wishbone to match everything up.
Im using A Model wishbone yoke and perch mount to make a factory style wishbone using the 48 rear radius rods,,,
Might use a steel sleeve just forward the forged yoke.
How long is the yoke insert bit, I did think it was at least 1"? ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1442038949.806418.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1442038973.138391.jpg
I have a 37 style wishbone I originally planed to use but need a wide A style wishbone yoke

The yoke has a shallow recess, kind of a dish, deeper in the middle and not much around the edges. You can cut a slot on each side of each tube joint, drill the yoke abit deeper and weld down the slots as well as around the junction.
