Technical wishbone ID

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 30tudor, Feb 28, 2021.

  1. How does one ID the differences in the 32-36 front bones? Other than the 2" boss.
What year would you think these are? Thanks.

I was under the impression that 32-34 used the same forged end. The 32 wishbone is longer unsplit stock. I used 32 ends when I made a wishbone for my 34 but I couldnt tell them from the ends of a real 34 wishbone that was in my shop. I dunno thats just my experience

@adam401 is correct, ‘32-‘34 have the same forging at the front, ‘35-‘36 have the different spring hanger to mount the spring in front. Even if the spring hanger is cut off the later ‘bones have a heavier appearance and have to be machined to use the early perch bolts.
I measured a cut ‘32 wishbone at 42”, it was cut where the tubing meets the rear forging. IIRC ‘33-‘34 bones are two inches shorter.

Yep, you have 32-34 there. Best looking front bones made. Since they have those big holes drilled in them, shine a light inside and see if you can tell if they are rusty. They can rust from the inside out, especially right at the yoke to the tube and along the bottom seam of the tube.
