I have a couple of full gallons of Alph-cryl A946. I'm thinking of selling them. What is a fair price to ask? I've been told the were worth nothing....and another guy said $300 per gallon. who's right?

  3. Something is worth what someone is willing to pay for it.....too bad ya can't get a good quality thinner to go with it. If some one really wants to go over the top..so be it.

Decide on a fair price and advertise it in the classifieds. I've sold paint there.

Do you have anything showing how old it is? What did you pay for it? Color?

When I painted my 3W I used RM ebony black. That was in 1999. At the time I paid $125. per gallon. IMO RM was one of the best lacquers available, of course it's banned in California. I would think a restorer would like to have it and if the cans are still factory sealed it's worth at least what I paid. I miss acrylic lacquer for many reasons. It was perfect for the garage painter, easy touch up and if applied correctly didn't check or lose it's depth. My 15 year old paint on the coupe still looks great.

There's still lacquer out there, just not in all colors of the rainbow like the old days. It's worth something, as it's a known good brand. I dunno about no $300 though...

don't the rolling bones use lacquer?

A couple of moths ago I was quoted $296.50 a gallon for PPG. Rinshed Mason Lacquer was among the best in it's day. It will depend on the color code as to how much someone wants it.
