Wix was owned by Dana. That ended in 2004 when Dana declared bankruptcy.

Mann And Hummel is one of the largest filter companies in the world. I suspect aftermarket filters like Wix aren’t very profitable compared to their high volume Oem business.

That still leaves Fram as the filter of choice

I don't have any trouble getting Napa gold as long as they are made to the same specs as before. but have to drive and extra five miles. That ****s if I can't get Wix in town though.

If you choose to use "chain store" cheapy filters. [made in Asia] you deserve what you get

Fram HP filters are still USA made and the racers choice down our way.
In the last 50 years I've never seen [or heard] of any engine failure caused by Fram HP filters in racing circles

90% of Fram hating is a result of rumours and industrial sabotage [This sort of childish mentality is similar to female hairdressers *****ing about 2 in 1 shampoo]

  7. Fram has history, and it is not good. warning.JPG

Most at home garage mechanics do NOT know to use a race filter on their loved daily driver or family hauler.

Why does Fram build junk for the normal consumer? ? ? Photo or a used RACE filter. race.JPG

The Fram HP filter is great! The stuff Fram sells to most American's at any and all auto parts stores should not be happening!

I did my own cut open of a Fram off my BBC (1st filter inspection after build). I felt like a chump. Been Wix ever since.

To buy and throw in the garbage so they don't hurt anyone else?

Sure, their race filters are probably great, but that's not what's on the shelf of most parts stores. The regular consumer grade FRAM filters are trash they should be embarr***ed to sell.

I buy Napa Gold (WIX) exclusively.

I also have cut open a Fram oil filter. I have never used a Fram oil filter since.

Wix has a number of manufacturing plants in the US. I ran into a issue last year with the federated line of filters manufactured by Mann running into supply shortages. But why manufacture a cheap line you have to re-box and impact your main line sold everywhere?

I have been running Wix filters pretty much since I worked in Napa stores more than 30 years ago now. Pretty sure we had cutaways back then even sitting on the counter showing the difference between them and Fram.

  18. Been common knowledge up here for a couple of decades that Fram in general are junk. Wix/NAPA Gold are the go-to's

I've seen comparisons that K&N are up there with WIX/Napa Gold as well but I've never used them myself.

Maybe they don't have the cut open display down yonder. If you trust your eyes, you can
See they're cheaply made. We used Baldwin filters on our Navistar trucks due to them being 60% lower cost than OE . The cut open revealed them to be as good as the Navistar units. This is on units in severe use -30 to 35 above C. 3000 miles between changes, not a quarter mile at a time or 10 laps around a dirt track.

I use Mobil 1, Wix, K&N, Royal Purple, etc... Depending on the application. Never any issues.

Not hating anyone. I've used Wix/Napa Gold/Platinum/Motorcraft/ AC in various vehicles over the years for different reasons and field testing.

  25. In the past yes. I also plan to get a baseline with the new 283 when it is running. I know a group of bikers that run over to the Bighorns and Yellowstoneevery summer. They all tested their oil before and after the trip of a couple thousand miles. It was amazing to see what was going on inside of the various engines. One was losing the mains, the copper in the oil was the red flag.

Millions upon millions of Fram filters have been & are currently being used without issue , I don't pay much attention to advertising &/or " experts" on the net . Most "experts" will sell their Soul to the highest bidder !

They're great, right until one starves your engine of oil.

I think we found a Fram customer!
