I , for one, like these filter threads! Things are always changing and these threads keep me up to date! A filter can be a good one today and junk tomorrow! Maybe not junk, but not as good as it was! It is important to me to have the best filter I can buy on my engine! Since , way back in the previous century, I changed to Wix and with confidence! After reading this post , I am not as confident as before! Thanks for the info!
Folks you DO know, if a post does not interest you…….you don’t have to look at it! Just scroll past!

Gotta agree, if a filter is good then a filter is good.

The assumption by some that because an item is manufactured in a certain country means it cannot be trusted has been smashed by a previous post in this very thread.

Inspect before you fit and hope for the best! That’s all you can do.

If folks are really that worried about their motor then they should fit a washable filter unit and inspect it every oil change, simples.

That story is bogus. It’s listing brands and not actual manufacturers.

For example , Bosch filters are actually made by Mann & Hummel., K$N filters are manufactured by Champion Laboratories, Part of the First Brand Group.

The various filter manufacturers have passed the brands around and it’s difficult to identify who makes what now without paying attention to press release dates when searching, and you should disregard any articles that you sense may be written to appeal to a regular reader of Better Homes and Garden, like the linked article.

Bob the Oil Guy was, and presumably still is, a trusted source.

Also, when I was active in all of this, it wasn’t uncommon for some part numbers to be farmed out to a competitor as an inexpensive way to fill out a manufacturer’s catalog, especially for low volume part numbers.

Yes, had to put the name in Maps, and keep expanding out to figure where it was.

I hope this isn't in response to my post. I was making a "tongue in cheek" observation about the number of these threads we've had over the last several years. Not bashing the thread, the OP, the posters or the info.....I don't do that...ever.
If it was aimed my way....I would say that, in my case, you can save the ol' "If you don't like the thread....move on" sermon .........and lighten up Francis.
    If it wasn't.....my sincere apologies.

I've run Fram's on multiple vehicles, couple million miles over 50 years. Changed regularly, never an issue. Maybe you should try one of those filters JC Whitney use to sell that used toilet paper for an element-though that's downsized, too.

I would wager this obsession and attention with an oil filter is mostly applied to the pampered cars that are subject here; carefully maintained and guarded like a F1 car. Meanwhile, the daily, the one relied on to get to work, take your kids to school and events, wives and parents to doctors and so on, are given the "whatever is on sale at Walmart or Autozone" treatment.

Yep. I like to buy filters at swap meets, garage sales etc. for a dollar each. I've gotten to the point where I don't even care about the part number and application. If it screws on and the gasket is in the right place, good to go!
But this is just for the unimportant, daily drivers in the family fleet. For the first few years I care, then... good enough.

And, the other side of that coin....... No amount of national pride guarantees that products manufactured in your own country are of good quality. Those days are long gone. Many major companies have gone down the path of sourcing product overseas to fatten up their bottom line.

Well, let me ask you of the 3/4 replies in this thread, where do I seem to be frustrated? Or a worrier?

Now let’s at your reply, which I quoted, “wix” repeated over and over in large font.
Then a question “This thread still going on”? (Not properly phrased as a question, either, I may add)

Which would make one feel you keep popping in on it, and are tired/frustrated, etc with it.

Maybe you need to start up your own site “JD the oil guy”?
And never look into oil/oil filter threads here again.

I manage a shop that has a lube line and recently spoke with a NAPA rep about stocking NAPA's fleet filters. I told him I wanted Gold filters because they are made by Wix and my customers don't mind an extra few bucks for a real quality difference. He told me they are no longer made by Wix. Baldwin makes them now.

It is difficult to keep up with who makes what filter for who. It changes all the time.

Just wait until you price the fuel filter for your Sprinter van.

The dealer quoted me over $400, and, no, I didn’t forget the decimal point.

    BOTTOM line!
-Change your oil and filter on a regular basis and you’ll be fine.
-Some filters are of a higher quality ie: they have a higher filtration rate, any filter I have bought is of OEM standards or higher.
-Oh I usually run the top line Frams but sometimes K&N or Mobil1 or Wix, I’ve even ran Wallyworld filters

we had the same sort of problem back in the '70s, where organized crime was passing off fakes to do-it-yourselfers!

NAPA Gold is just a relabled Baldwin and are still made in the US.

You can still get lucky and find US made WIX on the shelf but it is getting harder.
