THE WOMPIN WAGON LIVES......About 5 years ago a good friend of Bubba's got together with 42 or 43 old friends of Bubba's...some of them had paint, mechanic, body shop talents...others had money......I had Sign Shop and lettering ability......over about a 2-3 year time frame, we all completely redid the car back to it's old glory and presented it to Bubba on his Birthday a couple years ago...........he currently lives in Birmingham, Al......car stays there most of the time.....sometimes it will be here in Mobile, Al.........his brother, Danny p***ed away with cancer a few years back. Bubba currently drives the car at most G***er meets here on the coast....Bubba and the Wompin Wagon are regulars at Drag Racers Hall of Fame Show in Fl.....Bubba is also a member of the Hall of Fame...........he can sit and talk racing for hours remembering people that we had forgot about 20 years ago....Bubba is one of my good friends and also a great person to sit and talk racing with......he is a wealth of knowledge and a delight to be around.........I treasure his friendship

I believe this amt kit was issued in 62:
the silver car has the same graphics as the kit, but looks to have stock suspension, the blue car has a straight axle with a transverse leaf like the kit, and the kit came with an injected small block like the one pictured with the blue car at one point....

maybe both used the kit as inspiration?

The Model was not of the Wompin Wagon we have been talking about......it's a different car altogether....although there is a professional model builder that has built a replica model of the one we're talking about....it is really nice and detailed great.

  12. I'm curious how far north that car went when they were racing it. My uncles had a D/Gas '55 Chevy (H&H Racing) that was out of Louisville and they would race it at tracks as far south as Nashville and as far north as Indy. That Nomad looks really familiar. My uncle p***ed away a few years ago, but he was a photographer and he had hundreds of pictures when his '55 was racing. I recall seeing some pictures of the Wompin' Wagon in a few of them. I never forgot that name.

Back in the South, you would be shocked at how many Nomads got converted to drag strip duty. Lots and lots.

This car races with the southern g***ers. There is a link to their site in my signature and they have a face book page that has a shot of the car yesterday at the strip, this car still gets raced.

  15. Glad to see this Race car be revived and raced again!

I like happy endings... it's tough see somebodies dream abandoned and rotting but at least it didn't fall into the wrong hands and get s****ped!

Car looks awesome! I love that they didnt just restore it and put it up... It still gets to live on the 1/4...

To bad they didnt make a hood like it used to have. I really liked that hood.
