I'm also trying to figure out my grill Z. I don't have the original bullet nose piece but I have a '54 grill with the turn signals on either side. Should I use the '54 grill piece or keep the current one and straighten it?

Thanks for the lead to kustomrama, had forgotten that site. Not working on a 54 myself but when I saw rock's 53 was curious if or how it would look with a complete 56 grill on it. Its my favorite grille of the 52-56 fords. Have seen lots of these cars with 54 chev grilles with extra teeth but then looking at them coming at you they look like a chev. The much used 54 pontiac grille to me only looks right in a gm car as they are flat across the center and don't match up well in fords with their slight peak, unless they're cut in the center to match.

Rock, keep looking at other cars and something will grab you and it will be just right. And don't look just at grilles have seen some real nice floating grilles made out of early british car bumpers or some of the thinner profile bumpers of the 60s.

And then you could always just do what ford did and fix or replace your stock grille.

One of the easiest swaps is the 1955-56 Plymouth grille it fits like it was made for it,used one in a '53 "back in the day".

I love chevy grills and mopar grilles in these cars. The good thing about mopar grills is they fit without (too much) modification to the grille itself. The only thing I had to do to my desoto grille was notch the center tooth to clearance it for the hood latch support. I suppose you could make a '56 ford grille work, I've not done any measuring though. It would be a lot easier to use a whole '55 grille of course, or hunting down canadian pieces.

The next mid '50s ford I do, I'll be knocking off the victorian's nose and using a '59 chevy bumper and a rolled pan to make a really neat custom grille.
