Just ask the model T guys over on the Ford Barn,I would think whatever they use would be good enough for the fire truck. HRP

The common way that the early dashes, what we call firewalls, were made using a 5/8 thick hardwood lumber core (often white oak or hard maple) with 1/16" thick wood veneers on front and back to make up final thickness of 3/4". HRP

Thank you guys... I finally figured out how the body all bolts together... Very difficult since none of the original wood was there and it was in pieces... I have 2x4 holding everything together just so I can locate and begin building wood...
This is new to me... never really made much out of wood.

Good luck, those with knowledge say that the two best things I make out of wood are sawdust and firewood.

I'd think a piece of marine plywood would be the best bet for the firewall though. If you are close enough to the coast to be near boat yards that do repairs and redo bigger cruising boats you might find a source for a remnant piece of nice looking marine plywood that would be large enough but not break the bank as buying a whole 4x8 sheet would.

It gets painted... so showing the grain wont matter... Just need something that will hold up.
