It’s been a while since I’ve built a car. Like 4 or 5 years. I really got into woodworking and making stuff, and cars just ended up on the back burner.

A podcast I listen to, the Modern Maker Podcast, is doing a challenge where you have to build something out of wood for one of your other hobbies. I immediately knew what I wanted to do. I tracked down a pretty complete roller, and got to work.

I started making a cardboard template for the floor.

When I was happy, I cut it out of wood.

Next I started in the tail section.

Today I broke out more cardboard and some painters tape, and started trying to figure out the cowl.

I’ll try to make a couple updates a week as I make more progress. You can also check out the build on IG under full_steam_designs if you’re into that sort of thing.

Looks cool. I would have tapered the back of the tail downwards a but it’s not my car...

He's not done yet, that's just the basic structure.

I am liking that, I am building a boat tail on a 28 or so Chevy frame and am thinking about passing the 29 A cowl I have on to someone else and just fabbing the whole front of the body out of sheet metal over bent to shape tubing.

Nice start! I would encourage you to mock up the whole thing in paper and tape and roll it outside before cutting any wood. Easy to adjust the proportions while it’s still paper.
