He are some shots of a recently built woodie in Queesland, bloke did a nice job, all timber frame Beau
I do to. Infact, I'm leaning in the direction of a roll bar in the center... Nothing wrong with a little built in safety. Also, give a nice solid place to mount the shoulder belts. Hey, it's for my kids. Dont give me no "traditional" crap. I'm planning the "box" to be framed in 1" square all the way around.
i have a 33/34 ford cowl and fenders and such with the plan of building a woody, i also have the same fore a 28 pontiac, i have looked for years for plans online and books, the only book i have about building a woody doesnt have any plans just some tips and tricks what tools you would need, i was thinking about starting with a metal frame seeing as i'm not a carpenter, i like the woodies that have the rear sloped forward or backwards. these projects are not on the books for awhile so dont look for progress pics..lol
I cant find any plans either, and I'm not much of a carpenter..... But I wont let that stop me I'll just overbuild it if I'm in doubt.
the book i have is called, automotive woodworking by roland johnson, heres a link to the author and theres one on this page to his book, http://www.taunton.com/finewoodworking/Community/ArtistProfile.aspx?id=1022 someone needs to get this guy on the HAMB
Al,,get in touch with woodguy@woodieworks.net he is a HAMBer and can probably point you in the right direction. He built this 28 woodie several years ago,, HRP
there arent any woodie wagon body building "how too's" but the national woodie club sells some general plans developed by a member for a nominal fee.. I hope to be able to do a model a someday.. and currently have a complete chassis and cowl for one.. (with all the stock running gear.. ) But as I get older I am less and less interested in doing stuff other than the wood.. I have rolands book, and its not much for "specifics" it did provide me lots of ideas in building my finger joint cutter.. (but I didnt use rolands method at all)
This thread was started almost 3 years ago. You've probably gone another route, but for what it's worth I have a nice original '31 station wagon.....Mike
Talks cheap and eye sight is bad. There is no metal frame work in the car all mortise and tenion .check out the contours on the doors, wedge chop, and wedged body easy to build without steel frame work see! So easy everyone has one!
anyone have more pics of this woody?, i'd like to show some to a carpenter friend to see if he would be interested in building it for me, not an exact copy but i have three cars that could be, make that four cars that could be woodies made this style, thanks
