Let me tell you, my daughter is 10, and kinda likes the old cars, but I don't know what happened today. She said to me, hey dad, lets work on the hot rod. We put the body back on the car,she pumped the hoist while I guided it, and she tightened all the bolts down, then wanted to do something else. the door needed stripped, so I put her on the D A and went about with what I was doing, soon she said, ok whats next. I went to look, figuring she just got bored with sanding, and I will be damned if the entire door was stripped to bare metal. It's a shame tomorrow school starts back, I could have stayed in the garage all night with her. If I never go back to that garage again, it would be worth it, I had a great day with my kid......Scott

Hey Togwick, I can't wait 'til my boy is old enough to help me wrench on the cars. I have a five-month old who already loves the sound of the duals on my squarebird. I figure I got at least another year before I get him his first creeper. You done good with your girl.

If you haven't, get some memory lasting pictures for her and yourself working on your car, because they really do grow up to fast. Wish I had more. Howard

Yeah, bust out the video camera. I've got some killer video of me helping my kid build his first engine for his shubox when he was 15. It's fun to watch it on occasion. He's 29 now.

Hey Toqwik, I'm hopin' to have that same experience about 9yrs from now. My daughter is 7 months old and likes Hot Rods, Harleys, Nascar, and Hockey. Yep she's just like her Daddy. My Dad tells stories about me helping fix his cars when I was a kid and I hope I can do the same with her. Eric

My 2 1/2 year old grandson was helping my seat chrome nut covers on my flathead after re-torqueing the heads. After taping the left side with a big rubber mallet, I went to the right side to put the caps on. I heard two quick dull thuds. I looked up to see my grandson winding up to take a third swing at my Walker radiator. Thank god he didn't have a big ballpeen. The dents are only cosmetic so I'm going to leave them as a reminder of how foolish I was to let him carry the hammer. Also to show him when he wants to take the roadster around the block by himself when he's older.

That's damn cool. I've got a friend who does bodywork, and his little boy is real good and sanding and stripping the lower parts of cars... Just the right height..

    That sounds fantastic.

Thanks, guys, for the suggestion to take lots of pictures. My little fella's six months old, and I can't wait to work with him. (Or get him to do the work for me.) I'll make sure to capture a lot of moments.

They do grow fast, don't they?

My oldest grandaughter stayed with me for about 6 months the year that she turned 4. We spent lotsa time wrenchin'(and learning what wrench was what). Wouldn't trade it for all the Jalopies in the world.
She's 11 now and still calls once a month to see what Grandpaws buildin', and when she can come and play again.
My girl is 31 now, and she still wrenches her own. She doesn't always build what I like, but she's got her own style.
Nothin as cool as wrenchin' with the kids. Priceless friend. Good post [IMG] [IMG]
