I have a rear 1/4 spear I had in a 2" pvp pipe and still managed to get bent. Can I put a little or any heat at all to help straighten it out? Most of the kink is worked out but it's kinda hard to work with, any tips?

I have removed kinks from SS by using various body hammers, dull chisels, a flat plate of steel and dollys. It leaves very small dents and imperfections that have to be sanded out with 320, 600 and 3000 sandpaper on a DA set to spin. then buffing.

Practice several times on an old piece first. (then pratice again)

If you heat it, it may turn a blue color which I don't think will buff out. Practice on a scrap piece first.

Most stainless can be heated to a dull red or black heat to anneal it, but it will turn color. But the color can be sanded and buffed out and after doing any kind if straightening you would have to sand and buff it any way. At work I try to make a tool out of nylon or delrin and a polished backer. I use the nylon/delrin as a punch and work the back side it gives a little but is rigid enough to move the material. Hope that helped.

We have discuss the techniques for straightening and removing dents in trim before. I think there may be more than one topic about what to do. Try doing some searching on this question and I will bet you will find lots of good information. I used the terms ( stainless trim dent) and found several sources.
