Just as an historical perspective, I have attended many Speedweek and World Finals. As much as I enjoy Speedweek (and believe me I really do!), World Finals is better. Cooler weather, higher speeds, and greatly reduced hotel rates. However, if one were to check how often World Finals was washed out, it would be somewhere around 50%. Most people don't realize that the area we love and call the salt flats is under water much of the year. The weather gets better in the spring and water USUALLY boils of and reaches it's best in July and August. Like the last couple of years, Mother Nature plays tricks on us and brings rain. But, and this is important, World Finals takes place in late September/early October. Which is on the cusp of the flats returning back to lake. Thus the high percentage of rain outs for World Finals. I have been attending Speedweek for a bit more than 40 years and have experienced excellent salt, good salt, not so good salt, and occasionally Lake Bonneville. That's just the way it works. I love to go to World Finals just as much, but have spent more than my fair share of time gazing at the South Shore of Lake Bonneville. Far more often than ever at Speedweek. Does that dampen my enthusiasm? Hardly, I realize old Mother Nature runs the show and occasionally frustrates us. After a total rain out in 2022 and a shortened Speedweek in 2023, I had high hopes for World Finals this year, but knowing how fragile the weather can be at that time of year, I wasn't surprised. But , I will be 76 next week and hope Mother Nature will let us get back on track next year. Because, no matter how many Speedweeks and World Finals I have left in me, it won't match the 40 plus I have been blessed to enjoy so far! I hope to see everybody back on the salt next year, for both events!
