Well it's official the Utah Salt Flats Racing Association (USFRA) has pulled the plug on the World of Speed originally scheduled for September 7-12. Not too big of a surprise considering the amount of water that was on the Salt when we left on Aug 10. I was hoping we might get to run, but knew it was a real long shot. "It is what it is". World of Speed 2022 has been Canceled "On Saturday, August 20th, Monte and I went out to assess the chances that the USFRA World of Speed will happen. After checking the water level at the end of the access road and finding it was 8 inches deep, we walked out to what would be the starting line of the course sand found the water level at that point to be 3 inches. We then checked the condition of the salt on the courses. There were potholes all over the courses that will be hard to groom out after the water is gone. Later we went up on the mountain by the antenna towers to get a look at how much of the Salt Flats and the courses were covered with water. The water is from the freeway all the way to the 6th or 7th mile on the course, then sweeps to the north east corner of the SaltFlats in length and in width from the Saldero dike on the east to about1/2 mile west of the end of the access road and then tapers to about the width if the courses as it goes north. With how slow the water is receding and the number of days we feel it would take to prepare a good and safe course, it is with heavy hearts USFRA has elected to cancel the 2022 World of Speed. Thanks to everyone that had hoped we could have a World of Speed, but we all know that Mother Nature is in charge. See you next year." Dennis Sullivan President USFRA
I was hoping to make it down to World Finals, if it happens......this does not bode well for that event either.
