The world of wheels in Chattanooga has gone so far down hill that it should be banned. Out of everything there, 1- flathead, in a fibergl*** '32 roadster, with a stupid Wieand blower. 1- A Model Ford coupe, half*** restored. The rest of it was a blur of Chip Foose wanna be's and perfectly restored Camaro's. I can't believe that I fell for it again. I never saw a photo flash in the building. Total joke! The biggest crowd was in the parking lot of the motel beside the show. There were a few old ruff *** hot rods out there. At least 150 people were out there in the pouring rain, taking pictures. Kevin
yeah good idea....what these shows need are guys like you that know what is kool to put together club or single car displays and then go enjoy the show watchin the crowds lookin at your stuff...............serious it can be fun!
I can honestly say that I never thought that anything I had would be in the World of Wheels. If we had put together a few of mine, and some of my friends rides... We would have stold the show. That being said. It's a shame how sad the car show scene is in the southeast. I agree with you, we should have put something together. My bad. I think I will have more fun tommorow. Getting our stuff ready for good weather. Kevin Ooltewah Speed Shop
Kevin if you think your stuff is kool and your buddys do.then odds are so so a lotta people, and screw the guys with the cookie cutter cars,if they enjoy and the crowds like it great the more the better.here's my point s]car shows are getting thin!in fact there is NO indoor ISCA type show in arizona this year.So if you can get it together and do something to keep the tradition alive all the better...many people including me can remember our early shows me it was Mororrama in tucson and the early 60s at the armory in East moline Ill. ..that sticks with kids for a long time..........
Our car club went up and saw something indoors, I believe. I think I recall some old airplanes too? In Tucson that is. Why don't you try to get some stuff together? I know the only indoor show I've been to was SEMA and world of wheels. The WOW was at the D.C. armory like over 15 years ago and I'm 27 now, you're right, it sticks with you.
When I was a kid (early to mid '70's), I remember the World of Wheels in Chattanooga was a wonderful thing. I saw all the old show rods of the day, at the Memorial Auditorium. The stuff that was there tonight was a total joke. I swear today...That next year, we will have a setup at the World of Wheels. I am ashamed of what this has become in our town. Honest Charlie's and Coker Tire are less than a block away from the show. I did not see either one of the Honcho's at this total abortion. I'll do my part next year, I promise! I've had both cars and displays at the WoW events. The return vs the outlay to close shop and have a display booth wasn't in my favor,,,at all. Spent a lot of money, got to completly rearainge my schedule, handed out so many flyers and talked to so many people I lost my voice for several days. It looked promising, but "most" there were "lookie-lous". I'm not suprised on them not being there. As for throwing your cars in, I was dead serious. If you think they are **** and your stuff was good, why not go in and show them how it's done? I've showed cars that I really didnt think were "show standards", but I have some lame *** WoW trophies that say otherwise, lol.
I'm not saying that there were no "Nice" cars there. That would be crazy talk. There were alot of VERY nice Camaro's. I'm just saying, that there were NO cars there that were anything that I would have. These teal green, pro street, billet riddled, Chip Foose wanna be's are just a joke. There was not one car or truck there that would make any one of us think... Damn that's Killer. Kevin
Thats what makes this hobby/lifestyle of ours so great. Different strokes. Not everyone likes imports, but many do. Not everyone likes rat rods, but many do. Not everyone likes Billet bling bling, but many do. Not everyone likes trads, but many do. If your style car wasn't represented and you have cars that "could" have been there, then,,,,,,,,,,, I'm not a fan of Foose/Boyd type cars either, however, Jimmy Shines REALLY cool tv show ran one season, yet American Hot Rod and Overhaulin have continued on. Build for your tastes, go to shows that apeal to your tastes. IF your tastes become/are the majority, then sponsers and promoters will take notice.
Keep in mind, those indoor shows usually aren't put together to cater to 'us', the traditional hot rod and custom crowd. Malcolm (Edit: Choppintops said the same thing as me, but in different words )
