I’ve seen some old World War Two oxygen tanks used as fuel tanks but are they capable of being converted to use and air ride storage tank? Has anyone on here done that?
    Thanks

Should be no problem as long as operating pressure is below test pressure

But how do I know what psi they are capable of holding?

My Dad built an air compressor for pointing cars with one of those tanks. It reallly looked sharp with the bands running around its circumference. It worked for me years later.

If I recall correctly I think they were rated for about 400psi

Materials degrade over time. They had a very high operating pressure, but that was long ago.
They can be tested like any other tank, but I really doubt anyone who certifies would get involved without serious money.
So that leaves you with giving it a try and hope you are lucky, or going with a new tank.
BTW, previous threads on these say they hold about 8 gallons. If you are planning on doing a system, volume is one thing that should be specified.

I've seen tons of them used as air compressor tanks, I think they're rated for way more than you'd ever use in an air ride car, and I'm quite sure several have already been used for that purpose. You could use two for double volume if you needed more capacity. They're stainless steel and quite well made, I'd be really surprised if they degraded much over time.

Personally, I'd trust the quality and worksmanship of one of those over a catalog-ordered air ride tank.

Yes they are stainless, and I’d trust the workmanship of US WWII factories over modern Chinese factories.

Dad has one that we fill to 140 PSI every time its used as a air tank for at least the last 6o years he has had it or more . I used it for 20 at the races to fill tires . there SS so there not going to rust out and and for home or auto air stuff there likely never filled more than 120 PSI f as that's what most compressors are maxed out or less these days so there are likely never over stressed or near 400 PSI there rated for .
If its not all beat to crap id run it at 100 PSI and not worry .

My Grandfather had like 20 of them tanks when I was a kid . He made a dog bowl out of one . he had one rigged as a fuel tank on a wood splitter .
