I cried alot during the movie too. :D
It is the only movie that I actually own on DVD. I also have lost count on how many times I've seen it.

My brother made it to Bonneville for the first time in 2006. and set a couple records for the fastest electric bicycle.

The emotional responses that movie garnishes are from the adept conveyance of that *pure* unadulterated passion we relate too.

yea that was a neat part ... been trying to picture where that lot that was.

I seen the movie twice when it came out and preordered the DVD when it became available.

Maybe I'll see ya out on the Salt in 2008 with Bob & Tim

It was OK... I thought the sex scenes could have been better.

I love that movie! I drove 2 hours to see it when it came out then talked a local old theater into letting me host it there. We tripled their normal "independant film" night attendence to 900 people!

I cry everytime I watch it. I like the part when he steps on the salt and says
"We are standing on holy ground"

It kind of makes me teary just thinking about it. Having been to the salt myself I can understand where he is coming from....

    GO THE KIWIS !!!!!

I'm one of hundreds who met Burt in the early 70's and can only say that the movie barely covers the mans achievments ( he had several bikes, including a pre-unit Triumph he redesigned to fire evenly to make it smoother, and even adapting a vincent head to a AJS...) and the humerous way he got to get to the USA ,which he did several times.

It also glosses over the fact that Burt was ,to use an expression from home,a "stick man of the first order"...:D
Rodger Donaldson had known Burt from right back in the 70's and gave him a helping hand towards the end, so those of us who have driven the salt owe a debt of gratitude to this Movie producer for making a movie even Hopkins says is his greatest work!
It wasn't until the late 80's when Burt had all but been forgotten that I got my first copy of the SCTA rule book and there's Burt's name and record still there!!.
nice going old mate if you are out there watching!

I - well my truck - was almost was in the movie. Vern Tardel was the "Car Wrangler" for the filming. One night I got a call from Mike Bishop - he was assisting Vern - asking if I would bring my '41 truck down to Bonneville to appear in background shots. Keep in mind the movie was "set" in 1967 - the first year Burt ran on the salt. They wanted vehicles that would have appeared that year. Mine qualified. Unfortunately the truck and I couldn't make it.

When the movie was first released here in town almost two years ago - we were a pre-release city - the audience stood and clapped after it was over.

When I talked my significant other - who has been to Bonneville - into going to see it; she was kinda reluctant.
(she thought it was just about racing on the salt)
After the movie ended I turned to speak to her and she asked for a hankie. (I was going to ask HER for one!)

We were on a cruise just before Xmas; (just two weeks ago) and darned if the movie was running in the ship's theater - and on the ships TV.
Watched it ANOTHER 10 times!! Even though I own the DVD!

Oh, and BTW; Burt Munro's record STILL stands!! (1000 cc Streamliner bike)

If you liked the movie, buy the book Burt Munro Indian Legend of Speed authored by George Begg. It gives much more detail and is way more realistic. George Begg was a best friend of Burt and a test driver for Bruce McClaren.

  13. I can't even count how many times i've seen the movie. I bought a bootleg DVD at the Primer Nats, last year, then bought the actual DVD when it was released. It has the documentary about him on it. I noticed it was playing on the Movie Channel, and watch it everytime it's on!

Favorite part...When he leaves the cars in the dust, during the "handling run".

Yep, I too have seen the movie countless times. Definitely got this teenager excited about Bonneville! A great movie, I highly recommend it. Made me want to treck to Speedweek, and I will someday. And go cast some pistons while I'm at it!
My favorite part is when he is hitting the salt for the first time during the 'control run'. He's amazing the guys at just how fast the bike is going, and then he hits second gear...
Wasn't quite enough gear head stuff for me, however. :D

I took the wife and kids to see it,and a friend showed up with his wife, who thought it was about some Indian who ran fast.I sorta spilled the beans before it started, and she seemed slightly miffed. She had tears at the end too.I got a new copy of "On Any Sunday" for christmas, but this has got me ready to pop in the "Indian" dvd.

The movie wasn't available here to watch at the theaters when it came out, I was looking for it. I bought the first DVD available.

FANTASTIC MOVIE!!! My wife happened by the TV on time when it was first starting, she sat down to watch the complete movie.

Having said that, is was played up Hollywood style. In the movie he breaks 200mph, I think in reality it was 180 mph. Still one of my favorites!

Was at the W/Fs when they were filming and seeing M/Ts Challenger on the salt, where God intended it to be, brought a tear to my eye.

If this movie had been a song, it would be the hot rodders anthem.
Nearly every bit of it is dead-on right!

I bought the movie this afternoon. The short documentary that comes as part of the regular movie is worth the purchase price alone. I watched it first and then the movie itself this evening. Great flick and will definitely watch again!!!

  25. At the time mom worked at a large DVD/Video distributor and she snagged me a promo copy. I took it home and watched it that night and the next day I had to go see it in the theater. I bought another copy for the editorial, (the best part of the disk and not on the promo) as soon as it was available for purchase. not long after that I found 3 copies in the $5.00 bin at WallyWorld and bought all of them. I gave them to some of my buddies who don't get my obsession with anything on wheels. Why do I bother with people who don't get it, you ask? Beats me.

My favorite scene has to be the one with the Nevada state patrol. That was some funny stuff!
