Botanum. Those of you with wives with fancy hair might've seen it in their house. Its awesome for cleaning your hands, and smells like bananas

Gojo or Fast Orange is good for the everyday stuff like metalworking dirt, but I really like ZEP Cherry Bomb when you have to get diesel fuel stink or heavy engine crust off your hands.

In a pinch use some ATF. Very high in detergent.

  11. Raised on Boraxo. still my favorite. i saved a boraxo dispenser when my old shop went to new fangled stuff. its going on the wall at home.

at the shop we use what the uniform guys brings. its pretty good, but when i get home i finish up with a little dawn dish soap. washing my hair in the shower makes them hands gorgeous.

i cant stand fast orange, or zep. there is no such thing as waterless hand cleaner if you need to touch stuff after you use it.

  12. Lava soap or Goop.

Used Crisco once when I didn't have anything else. Worked real well, but, unless you want to smell like shortening, I wouldn't suggest it.

I work in surgery, Hands have to be clean when I wash before putting on sterile gloves. I just use GoJo from walmart and a tooth pick for under the nails.

I wear gloves. The shop buys them.I don't have to work as hard to get my hands clean no matter what cleaner I end up using. My hands aren't as dried out as they used to be..even if I used lotion afterward.

Sure, they take some getting used to.Sure they tear .The TRUE benefit to gloves is that you aren't absorbing as much through your skin as without.

I keep gloves at home(that I paid for).I also have some in the car.

If your hands are dirty/greasy, wear the nitrile gloves. The gloves make my hands sweat like crazy, especially on a hot day. The sweat removes the grime.

When I started back in the 60's there used to be a hand cleaner called Hemphills. Came in an orange can and if you have a cut on your hands you knew about it using this. Company quit making it in the early 70's or I would still be using it. Stuff they make now all seem to be the same. They work ok but dont let you know where the cuts are.

I'll have to try the KFC/fried chicken one. 2 birds w/one stone.

i grab a hand full of the powdered tide fabric soap (like you put in the washing machine) and scrub real good. takes anything and everything off. then follow up with some lava soap otherwise your hands will be sticky all day

I been having a hard time finding Lava soap! I ran out a few weeks ago and been looking for it, i used to get it at the dollar store, then to walmart, then kmart, grocery store etc.
I have gojo more for the folk that lend a hand, they like to use it. I hate it because i am the one that has to clean up the mess it leaves - it don't dissolve grease or oil it just moves it from your hands to the sink sides, back, bottom etc

I've found over the years that massaging a blob of wheel bearing grease into all of the calousess and stains will loosen almost anything. Rub it off with a dry rag then wash with dish washing soap. Your hands will be as clean as you can get them.
