This has to be one of the ugliest candidates ever for a hot rod - it is so seriously beyond cool. This must be the automotive equivalent of Quasimodo - the Hunchback of Notre Dame.

Built in the late 1930s by Ford of Britain to tow barrage balloons and blimps into place during the Battle of Britain. It sported a V8 flattie - note also dually rear axle and winch inside body just above the tow bar.

Reminds me of an Aussy bodied 39 Chev sloper!

  4. It's not ugly, it's the coolest. What's the deal with it?

    Thanks,

Doesn't even look close to be a hot rod to me. Not sure where that comes from. It is sort of ugly, but pretty cool actually I think. They probably didn't care much what it looked like so long as it could get the job done, but it does have some kind of style verse some military vehicles which style other than function really played no importance. Its a truck too. I respect it for what it is actually. However, I will admit I am not too big on the Divco trucks that a lot of people seem to like. So, I seem to be off the mark on those compared to others and maybe this one too. Still don't see what is hot rod about it though.

  19. That's gonna be hard to beat.

  20. The only thing that needs to be done to it is nothing or restored to its original glory. How many of these would you guess are left? But, it is fun to blab about it: I picture it poppin' a wheelie.

I think the blue one is rather nifty looking. The first time I saw it on the net a couple of years ago it was listed as the balloon tow rig. That is one of those rare rigs that needs to be restored to it's original appearance. I don't say that often for sure but as odd ball as it is it should be put back to original.
As for the black outhouse on wheels. That might be a real candidate.

  24. For sale BY you?? For shame, FOR SHAME!;)
