The real heyday of sidewinders was the late fifties.

One of the oddest, around the same time as the Kessler & Gammill car, Chreighton Hunters "Slice of Pie" an early slingshot with a flathead mounted sideways in front of the rear axle. Car crashed hard and was destroyed.

I'll dig through a few more mags and see what else I can find.

    Is amazing

    The mind conjured a story

Kid was into soapbox derby -
Kid progressed from derby to go-karts
Kid out grew his go-kart as he matured
The matured derby/kart racer wanted to go drag racing

Boy does that thing bring up memories! My first trip to a dragstrip, Byron dragway, 1981, I was 14. They had Garlits match racing Aggie Hendricks' jet dragster. He got whupped 3 for 3. Later, Gar said the gears consumed too much power, but the car drove so straight, it was effortless, not fighting the torque reaction. At the tome, dragsters all looked the same, so it created a real stir. It shows why Garlits is the King, he was always willing to change it up. Some worked, some didn't.

Didn't realize the car was that new. I would have guessed early 70s.

Lets see if I can add to your wonder and amazement...Same car, circa 1959, as the Jones-Reed-Mailliard-Chrisman Isky 5 Cycle special. Note the "Roth Studios" painted on the tail fin. Wonder if he maybe painted it in return for his shops name on the fin?? Chrisman was pretty successful in this car, probably the most successful sidewinder...
