Would it be a sin to your car a long distance?

I'm getting a little disheartened because I may not get my ultra reliable '54 Chevy painted in time for The Lonestar Roundup.
And I'm a little scared about driving my '34 Ford that kind of distance because of it's '56 Packard engine. The summbitch already threw a rod once.
I've driven a '59 ElCamino to San Antonio before, and that was with a tired 348, parts for which don't grow on trees either.
I think it would be a bit pathetic to tow the old girl, seeing as how I've never towed a car other than in an emergency.
But shit if it comes down to it, I'll do it.
But you assholes better promise not to give me any shit.

There should have said 'tow' your car a long distance, sorry.

It would be a sin to be at the Lone Star Roundup in a rental car. Trust me! I know!

Bring your ride and have fun.

Fuck it. My car will be towed sometimes. But if you do it you should definitely get shit for it...only because you're worried about getting shit. [IMG] Is the '34 still running on the JB weld repair?

Everytime I hit the highway in one o' MY death-traps/projects/beaters/etc I always say, "Hell...one of two things is gonna happen...it'll GO or BLOW!"

I plan on driving my old Chev everywhere this Summer...no tow vehicle...so it BETTER be reliable!

    Go for it, Nads! [IMG]

I wanna tow the Fly to the Round up but I have no idea what to do with it while I check out the sites. [IMG]
Here in Oklahoma a trailer is a hot commodity...and even hotter with a untitled racecar on the back of it.

  13. nads, put it on a hauler and pull it there, Florida is far away and if you have a job, you need to get back not get stuck on the road. Tow it, who fucking cares. Going to an event without a car is dumb. Pull it or drive it but dont go without it.

    It is a slippery slope . . .

now it's "I am worried about my old engine blowing"

next thing you know it will be "I don't want to get bugs on my Boydster"

be carefull starting down that hill man.

  15. Don't know, I don't own a trailer. I may have to borrow one in the near future to get a new project home. Any takers [IMG]

Well that makes me feel like the pirate that I always wanted to be. [IMG]
    Plan A
I guess if I were worried about it, I'd drive the '54 without paint, before I trailered the '34.
    Plan B
You could always do like I've seen some do. Trailer and drop the trailer where no one will see it. I think that's what the guy did that one the distance award at a big show down south last year, then got passed trailering up the interstate by one of the judges.

I'd do plan A, plan B is pretty low rent.

    1. Drive your car here for the MOST FUN.
    2. Trailer your car here and have FUN with it around town.
    3. Catch a plane, get a rental, hang out and have FUN.

Do you see the theme? Just get here, man.

I put 20k miles on my Studebaker motor last year. And that was running pretty hard most of the time. Throw in HAMB Drags and The Day of the Drags too. Maybe I should stop beating this motor?

I won't laugh at you though, I may need your help when I come to FL for the Turkey Run.

Just because you trailer it once doesn't mean it's a trailer queen, right? Besides, if it does break down, it's gonna wind up on the back of something anyway.

Trailers are for boats [IMG] Really,Who cares, tow your car to and from. You'll have peace of mind and enjoy yourself more, and you won't have to try and second guess on what spare parts to haul along, cause you won't need any. [IMG]
A fast comfortable trip in a late model, with all the comforts,on a long haul is better than getting beat to death in yer rod and wearing yourself out. Relax and enjoy.

It would be a bigger sin to miss the Round-up because you didn't want to tow your car. It's a lesser of the two evils type thing. See ya in March.

Root- If you're worried about the Fly/trailer, you're welcome to park it in my backyard for a couple days.

Put a hitch on your car so when the tow rig breaks down you can haul it behind the car. I have a friend who's twice that I know of had to get his car off the trailer and run for parts for the tow truck. Now, he's seen the light and builds his cars to go the distance. [IMG]

There are 2 kinds of cars, around towners and freeway flyers. If yours is an around towner, tow it. But don't power park it and drive around in the tow truck when you get there... [IMG]

  29. It's your car man. Do whatever the hell you want with it. Don't let some fools tell you your not hard core enough because you don't want to drive the damn thing across the country.

I just think it's rad that you are looking to bring the thing to the show.
