Years ago I saw some pictures of. 1965 Buick Sport Wagon made into an El Camino, called a Bucamino. I think the pictures were on this site, but I can’t find them. Unfortunately seeing those pictures stopped me from building one as it was already done by someone else. I have regained my interest and have almost everything to build the 65 Bucamino on a 65 GS four speed frame. I have lots of parts and three Elky body shells to sacrifice to make the Bucamino. I would love to have pictures of the one I saw to show people what I am building. So, anyone have access to some old pictures of a 1965 Buick made into a Bucamino?
I am really getting going on the build. I need to spend a day organizing my new tool boxes and then I will modify the Skylark two door sedan doors to fit a 65 Elky body. Only requires changing out the gl*** and changing the channel around the top of the door. I have the parts an equipment, just need to get to it.
I I am using the quarter panels and taillights from a Sport Wagon. Tailgate from an Elky. The door jam under the B pillar will be from a two door sedan. To get the body lines to really align I will use the skins off the wagon’s back doors. Requires making a small filler piece right behind the door at the top off the panel. I have all the sheet metal required. My biggest challenge is do***enting everything when dis***embling cars so I can remember where everything goes. In my early career I was a fabrication welder, so that part doesn’t concern me, painting will take a little practice.
Is this what you are looking for. It can be viewed in the threads covering the Custom Car Revival 2025.
Or, maybe this? https://www.65gs.com/photogallery/thumbnails.php?album=27 https://www.65gs.com/photogallery/index.php?cat=10160
My thoughts to do this would be to start with the El Camino shell and bolt the front sheet metal on. For the doors either bolt on the Buick doors and modify the tops like you said or re-skin the El Camino doors with the Buick sheet metal. Then skin the quarters and add your tail lights. The El Camino frame will have the holes to bolt the Buick engine mounts already drilled. If a Buick serial number is important to you, cut through the A pillars and the floor and add the Buick cowl. (Might be pushing "customizing" to the edge.)
Yep, that is my project. We bolted the front end and doors on that came from a two door sedan. I am not cutting up that Elky, just fitting parts. I have three Elky cabs, a 1965 Sport Wagon and a two door sedan I have already parted out and then cut it up. I just wanted the photos to show my wife and curious friends what I am doing. Oh, I will also be using Skylark dashboard.
