    Hi All,

You will have to make a few allowances for the quality of these pics which are scans of some old photographs i took way back at the Knebworth Custom car show 1983.

    Hi S***dog,

I wouldn't argue with you on that point, although beauty is in the eye of the beholder so they say. From an engineering point of view many of them ranged from horrible as you said to downright dangerous.

The latest fashion at the moment is to get everything as low as possible, back then it was basicaly the opposite to get it as high as possible or the back end at any rate with no thought going into castor, kingpin inclination, camber, scrub lines etc many cars were to all intents and purposes undriveable.

    Cheers.

My question is how did you find out about these events before the days of the internet?

    Hi myjynx,

In the main it was word of mouth and the landline (if you had one) although most of the big shows would hold their annual event on the same weekend each year and at the same venue where possible.

Knebworth was a very popular venue for car events in the past (and still is to a degree) with easy access off the motorway and more space/parking than any car show in this country could ever fill. But in recent years it has run rough shod over some of the car events in favour of pop concerts and other events where much more money is involved.

Two such cases that spring to mind are the NSRA HotRod Supernats and the Pre 50AAC Rally Of The Giants.

In the case of RoG, Sandra Toogood the events organiser when leaving Knebworth in July 2010 re-booked the venue for the same weekend mid July 2011. One week before Christmas 2010 Knebworth phoned Sandra up and told her that her Rally of the Giants event was being moved back 2 weeks to the last week in July because they were going to have a pop concert on her weekend, with a take it or leave it at***ude.

This posed two problems for Sandra the main one being many of her members are older ie in their 60's 70's and some even in their 80's so camping is not really an option and Knebworth was ideal with the hotel on the approach road to the venue the second problem was with the 2 week bump it also fell on the same weekend as the HotRod Supernats, the HotRod Hayride, the Mopar Nats and the Worthing show which with all the shows being big events diluted the attendances at all venues.

Sandra had no option but to take the date that was forced upon her by Knebworth for 2011, however they moved their event to Blenheim Palace this year and have rebooked Blenheim again for 2013.

    Cheers.

    Hi All,

Some more from Knebworth unfortunately a bit mixed up so some from 1989, 1991 and 1993 again quality is a bit suspect as they are scans of old photographs.
