So, the car I'm building I want to be what a 65 Mercury Super Marauder Convertible would be, but custom. So, I can take some liberties ... might put in a leather interior .... didn't come with leather .... but I might put it in.

The correct Super Marauder engine would be a 410. The car is a Z code (390 4v) car but does not have the original engine in it.

Anyway, I've found a parts car, and about all I can use is the fresh 428 that's in it .... and the dual exhaust. Maybe some power window motors. $1500.

I think I can sell the 68 Thunderturkey 390 2v and Cruise O' Matic that's currently in the car to finance a mechanic to make the swap (as I don't have the space).

Any of you Tucson guys wanna help me out? I'll give you a 1968 Ford 390 AND a 1967 4 Door Mercury Park Lane ... canabalized. Clear title. Good sheet metal, original 428 car, complete interior ... for putting the 428 in my 65.

Here she is. A real Unicorn:

3008 Convertibles were made TOTAL in 1965. A Super Marauder Convertible was never made. Most came in black, or red. Very few .... IF ANY ... other 65 Park Lane convertibles in light blue still exist. This is the only one I know of.

So ... it would be awesome if I stumbled across a real, orange 65 Mercury 410 or 390 4v .... but ..... a 428 might be nice. Big Cobra style intake and a teardrop hood scoop. Tell me that wouldn't be awesome, too.

P.S. The 67 4 door is an original 428 car ... but it's not the original 428. Unsure of year.

Somehow I am shocked you guys are not as excited as I am.

  4. Those are tough cars to do much with, we had a real Maurader and ended up scrapping it and forgot to save the door panels out of it.

Put the good motor in and run it, what's it going to hurt? Maybe you'll find a 390 or 410 later. I can't remember if we kept the motor in this one or not. Watch some of the demo derby sites, you might score one cheap that way.

I think those big Merc's from that era are neat looking cars............just so....BIG!....but that said, I could get a lot more excited to see the idea of a 'phantom' Super Marauder Convertible being done, with the 390 or 410 or 428, but otherwise as the factory would have built it, not some mighly modified (i.e.dumb ass hood scoop) that totally ruins and obscures the idea of "what coulda been" .

If that really is your goal, and the '67 Merc donor car is really very nice, and you intend to part it out, you'll be destroying TWO good cars in the process.

Neither car has it's original engine. And it's easy enough to put the hood back to stock .... so "destroying" is a little bit harsh.
