Those cars are the reason I look for cars out west. If you're going to get hammered on the price, as least minimize the rust.

I wouldn't attempt it but my kind of metal work is smashing beer cans lately.

One guys greed screws it up for the rest of us all across the country.
Now every guy with a hulk sitting in the weeds in the back 40 will have his mouth breathing brotherinlaw telling him that it has to be worth 7 k because these guys on ebay had one like it for 7k.

chances are, especially since he uses the cash from one purchase to assist a future one he is actually hurting himself with these high prices. Sitting on the car forever means you wait forever to turn it into some cash, if he lowered prices he could move more metal and get better pickins for himself.

those make me feel much better about my car that I paid 5k for and it was a driver, I wasn't too happy when I got it home and found newspaper stuffed in the lower half and bondoed over but I'm past that point with all new lower metal, new floors real soon.....Those cars are realllllly rough, to spend that amount of money and have to basically build a car around an A post or lower qaurter section you'd be better off saving some more funds up and get something that needs alot less work......I can see a few pieces and I emphasize a few pieces that could be patched into a much worthier car but not at those prices......Like metioned above, anyone with piles sitting around see people asking these prices now think they have a yard full of gold and will ask rediculous prices which will a domino effect to the point that anyone wanting an old car will only be able to afford this junk because the stuff that is better shape will go even higher yet....Too bad the world is full of greedy people..... just my 2 pennys worth...

  9. That guy in Norway who built the 36 3 window out of a Fordor could probably save the 34 with a little "blacksmithing".. You never know, he might make a Sedan Delivery out of it or something...

But for the rest of us mortals, it's merely yard art.

  10. its his stuff he can do what he wants and sell it for what he wants dont mean much to me but for those kind of prices one could at least haul it out of the weed patch before takin pics and hangin a price like that on it..

    In Rusty New Yorkers defense:

I have an idea, if you don't like something on E-Bay you don't have to buy it. Read the fine print, it's in there!

If any of you had the opportunity to triple your money, you would do it.

He didn't list those cars for sale on the Hamb.

Remember the old saying "there is one born every minute"........ it is true, & chances are they are looking through E-gay right now......

He is a business man, let him be.

  12. IMHO, I appreciate guys like him trying to save old cars 1 at a time, I have the same feelings, I LOVE OLD CARS!
I also can(as most of you can) understand making a buck or two.
I mean if you found a car, and to you it was worth $4500, but you could get it for $3000, would you tell the seller NO, I want to pay $4500?????? NO FRICKEN Way, but if that same car was $5000, and you thought it was worth $4500 and walked away with it for $3000....its still buying it for what YOU are willing to pay, and like the guy said its easy to go down, you cant go up....
Personally I wouldnt tackle a job that big, based on my wallet and my expierence. And Im used to dealing with "rust belt cars" as you "left coasters" call them, Im from PA and dang proud of it.
Sure anyone can take a basically rust free car and make it pretty, but, it takes a real craftsman to take junk and make it pretty.
Yes some of us here in the east spend the extra$$$ to have the scrap that you guys out west dont want, trucked back here to build, yet others save that $$ and sink it into repairing rusty stuff thats already here.
No matter how you slice it theres a Butt for every seat. And shows like the BJ auction makes the prices on everything go up(junkers included), and like he said this isnt 1967, dont know much about that I was 3. However I know that what I paid for cars in 1980 has doubled if not tripled for the same car in 2005....
One more thing and then I will jump off my soap box.....
I want to commend him and others like him(and me) that take the time to track down leads and find the early tin.....sure some of it maybe be best suited for parts or as you say yard art, but its still saving them from there untimely demise at becoming tommorrows cat food cans....and lets not forget where would our hobby be if it were not for people building hot rods from what they had, or could afford..............in the olden days hot rods were built not bought!

I would like to announce that I just took a dump and upon completion I visually inspected it and although its not much to look at it definitely is a #2. That being the case, I'm listing it as a deuce and would like to start the bidding at $4500. This is not a project for beginners but if you have the vision, patience and skills this would make a great project. After all this is an "original" deuce, not a reproduction. Let the bidding begin...

Well stated wedgeii1. In fact your duece is probably in better condition than the two other piles of shit.

  15. You Yanks are too spoiled for raw tin, they are buildable. Most rods over here these days that are 'found' tin look like that to start with.

Not all of us yanks are spoiled Doc, some of us can't afford more than 100 bucks for a trashed, mangled and rotten shell of what looked like a car at one point...

Doesn't anyone have a conscious anymore, Or is it all about fucking some new guy over, so he never comes back to the hobby...If people didn't get fucked so bad they would hang around and the hobby would last a whole lot longer...Its not about saving cars for this guy, Its about how much money he can stuff in the bank...Should be selling used cars on a lot somewhere, he would be a good crooked conman salesman...

  20. Wow, you can find a 34 body here in California for about the same price, that actually resembles a "car"

    :)
    Would I build them ?? NO ...

    But in rustynewyorker's defense ... :)
The area you live in ... has a lot to do with what is available ...
and therefore ... your price structure ;)

This is the floor of my 3W ... :D

There are quite a few low rust/no rust cars from the 20's, 30's and 40's available in the Carolinas. The main cause of the lack of good old cars around here is the dirt tracks and the WW II scrap drives.

I hate bodywork ... and I believe I am better off buying the BEST body I can ... and leaving these " difficult challenge " cars to those who think they can OR really can ( like Jim Sibley ) fix them.

Some folks do not have the time to look for old cars/parts/pieces. Others are too lazy to find projects. Even more are " Dreamers " who will buy a project like these and NEVER build them ... because they went in uneducated and unprepared ...

eBay provides them with a place to buy these projects and pieces.

At least rustynewyorker is getting the stuff out for a shot @ going somewhere other than going here ... :)

If he makes a few bucks ... so be it
No one is forcing anyone to buy his stuff ...

  25. well said Deuce Roadster! no one is forcing anyone to cough up cash.....if it sells it sells, Im not going to loose any sleep over it, as Im sure most on here will not......let the guy sell his wares, and if your not intrested, move on to the next post, its better to keep a guy like this in our hobby then to automatically black ball him because in some peoples opinions the stuff would be better suited as CAT FOOD CANS.....if its not for you, fine, move on, lets all play nice.....Im sure we can all learn to hold our tongues for the good of the hobby, no news spreads like bad news, and one pissed off rodder can spread bad news quickly, and we dont need it here on the HAMB BB In My HUMBLE Opinion.

Unfortunately, the T-Bird and Cavalier would still be easier to repair than the iron oxide as listed on Ebay. I bet these two cars in New York would start at $10K and up :p .

  30. I go away for a week, someone digs up this thread enough to see that there's at least a few people here that aren't assholes. Not too many, but a few.

How about this? If you don't like it.. go fuck yourself. I'm tired of the whiners complaining because God forbid I put an asking price on something they don't care for. If you don't have two nickels to rub together, that's your problem, it has no bearing on what I sell something for. Or if I sell it at all. I could give a shit. I make damned good money out of this crap, and almost everything I sell I go buy as many more cars as I can get my hands on. Worst case, iron will get high enough I can make a profit scrapping it myself.

But it is funny how the same car I post as a potential project the same people say what a great piece it is, when someone finds a super-hidden eBay store listing with a high price tag on it, suddenly it's a piece allright... of shit.
