Yes - while I loved the car, what really bothers me is that it was purchased new by my Grandfather, I regret letting it go. Plus my dad and I worked together on it a lot when we pulled it out of the shop and got it back on the street.

I sold it around 1990 to a guy from Rock Island/Moline IL area - name was Matt something, and he had an Interstate Battery route. He planned to put Magnum 500 wheels on it. Anyone know Matt, or spotted it in the last 22 years? :)

First car, nope. A 72 Maverick 6/ 3 on the tree. Even though it was new I hated it but since I wasn't legal age to buy and title a car I had to get one my Dad approved of and the Maverick was better then walking. Sold it as soon as I was 18 and bought a 4 speed 68 Barracuda Formula S. That one I'd buy back!
The other day I spotted my old DD truck on a sleezy used car lot, a ot 76 F-100 I drove new off the dealer lot, sold it 10 years later. Now beat to sh-- and over priced but it still worked on me, kept thinking about it, lots of memories including 2 honeymoon trips (different women!). Went back a few days later to try to deal on it but someone else was there buying it when I pulled in. I was actually glad, I REALLY didn't need it.

This was my first real car. Sold it to my brother for $500.00 he paid me $200.00 then got drunk ran a red light, it was a complete total. I still have the pink slip. Never got my $300.00. I would love to have that car back....:mad:

I have bought a couple of my old cars back over the years. Can't really remember which car was my first.
Built my first chopped car over 20 years ago. It was a 37 Chevy 2 dr sedan. The family and I had a lot a great memories with that car. We sold it in 2000. I found it again a few years ago and last year I bought it back. Little had changed with it and it still gives me great pleasure when I am behind the wheel.

About a month before I turned 13 my grandpa gave me a 40 Chevy 4-door. I had it about a year and a half - then Dad made me sell it. I never did get it running... but I learned a lot about cars. I have been looking for it, or another one like it ever since.

My '75 Pinto? Nahhh...couldn't anyway. Beat the SNOT out of that car, spun it into a guardrail and it it so hard that it wrinkled the unibody. Still drove it after that, but tried to cut in front of a Peterbilt at a light 6mo later. I lost. Sold it for $100 to a guy who needed a core motor. Scrapped the rest.

    It was shit brown.

    Appropriate color.

Yes, in 1984/85 I drove a '48 Ford Super Deluxe Coupe to school. Would love to locate it. Had 58,000 miles on it when I sold it.

I still own my first car, It`s in my avatar(27 years). After reading thse posts, I will never sell it. some new owner will probaly get drunk, street race it and hit a tree, then off to the crusher it`ll go. Or, they will tear it down to redo it, then somday they will get it back on the road but it won`t be for sale.

Been in the area for 20 years; I don't know Matt, but I'll keep an eye out for the car to see if it's still around.

As far as my own first car? I'm torn. Part of me says yes, it was cool as hell driving a 50 Chevy 2 door town sedan with a 327 between the fenders and it was black with flames. There weren't a lot of them in any condition running around south central Nebraska. Now that I'm in a better position financially, there's a ton of stuff I would have liked to do but couldn't afford back then. Part of me says no, too. I'd have Popeye forearms from fighting the steering on that thing for the last 30 years...

There's a couple of other cars that were in the family I would have liked to keep around but it wasn't my call. My older brother had a 64 Impala SS complete with the 300hp 327, and mom had a 55 Bel Air 4 door. And my wife is still kicking herself for ever getting rid of her late 60's VW beetle.

my friend scott used to say "dont worry about those swaybacks from wayback". He was talking about girls but over the years I use it whenever I get nostalgic. keeps me from being the guy screaming at kids from my porch (figuratively)

my first car was a 64 galaxie two door hardtop. i bought it with my grass cutting money when i was 14 for $200. that was 1987. i bought it from a lady that lived down the street from us. it had sat in her back yard for quite a while. had four flat tires. my dad and i made four trips back to the house to air up the tank we had to get them aired up for the tow home. haha. my dad and i worked on that car alot and got it roadworthy by the time i was 16. i drove it a while and just HAD TO HAVE a 67 galaxie convertable id found for sale. i told my dad i wanted to sell the 64 and buy the 67. he bought it from me and i got the 67. i was 17 then. he put the car in storage and its been there ever since! its been out of sight out of mind ever since. we talk off and on about doing something with it soon. hopefully we will. im 39 now, so that means the cars been stored 22 years!!! SO... that makes me wonder, would it still be a "barn find" even though ive known where it was all these years? haha. sorry, didnt mean to get off the topic of your thread, but you never forget your first, right?

All my cars made me happy, some when I bot them, others when I sold them...

mine was a 1965 dodge coronet 318. my drunk uncle drove it while i was in the navy and wrecked it in a yard "somewhere" and couldnt remember where (or so I was told). searched for several years and no one seemed to know where it was, then i get a call out of the blue that "i just missed getting it....the city called and had it towed off to the crusher a few days ago. I'm so sorry". I would have that car again in an absolute heartbeat. It's been since 1987 since i have driven it and I can still smell it.

  25. Defiantly not my first car or hot rod but this past Fathers day I was able to buy back the car I regretted selling the minute it left my driveway. HRP

Yes, in a heartbeat! In fact, my 15-year-old son and I are in the process of trying to locate it (quite unsuccessfully, the obvious routes have produced no leads). 1968 Firebird, 350, 4-speed, mild cam, blue/blue, aluminum slot wheels. Paint code on the trim tag reads "SPECIAL". Last seen in York County or Lancaster County, PA in the mid 1970's. I know it's an incredible long shot, but does anyone from the area remember the car?

  28. Interesting thread. There's the " you can't go back" answers as well as the I want to go back posts. My first was a 57 Ford Fairlane 500 4dr sedan. 312 police interceptor and auto. I've had way better stuff since so in my case, the answer is no. If we move forward to the 67 Shelby GT350, I'd change my answer.
