If that's aimed at me, Richard, I'm not bashing Chevies. I just think that they are completely out of place in a Ford. One of these days, I'm going to build a Chevy and put a Ford engine in it...just out of spite.
as for the replacement for displacement there is an extremely good subs***ute; flow. if theres anything thats close to a replacement for big cubic inches thats it. im sure someone will jump my **** for saying it. thats why small cubic inch motors can have incredible power, as long as you add a blower or something to increase flow. I love big blocks wouldnt have it any other way, but with proper motivation HUGE power can be made with small cubic inches. there may be no replacement but there a a **** ton of subs***ues and youve found it with the blower.
Yeah mostly. But no to the gear drive. Everybody I know who has used gear drives in the past has given them up for one reason or another. Blower - yes, sbc - ok, but I would prefer something bigger like maybe a 454. Go with the heads you have, you can always change them out later if they are deficient. Just make sure all your parts are strong enough to stand up under the stress of a blower and you will be just fine. My 34 has an early sbc in it (68). I didn't put it there but there it will stay until I can find something different to my likeing. Fuelie heads with no holes, but that don't matter cause there are always other ways to hang things off of an engine without head holes. I don't have a blower on it, and don't really need one, 'cause the car makes so much power it can scare the hell out of me now. Don't need no electric kickdown to p***, just step on the gas and it's goes like that old bat out of hell. Besides how fast do you really want to go in a 73 year old car?? Fortunately it has 4 wheel disc to haul it down when it needs to stop, which is not that often.
Why on Earth would you make you car slow on purpose? Just havin a little fun with you blue oval guys, American iron is American iron.
Maybe the truck will be somewhat like this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zAs_sP1loYo&mode=related&search=
there is a replacement for displacement... more cylinders... the set-up sounds pretty good man... in the end your the only one that needs to be happy
I'm actually a 318 Poly guy, and every time I saw an SBC in something I'd just kinds roll my eyes. Nowadays though, I've come to realize that if you're on a cross-country trip and something goes wrong and you need parts, ANY SBC part you'll need can be found in ANY podunk auto parts store as well as the big chains. You just can't do that with a flatty, cool though they are. Besides, if anybody gives you **** for running a SBC, tell 'em that you built it from parts just laying around for little or nothin'... and if driving to CA, wave at the guys broken down on the side of the road! While the other guys are down waiting for parts, you can be out driving yours. Keep in mind, I personally wouldn't use one, as I am in love with my little underdog MoPars, but I can certainly see the value in runing one - especially one built from parts you happen to already have on hand.
Which increases the displacement . . . . . IMO you're better off with a big small block (434, 502, etc) than a big block, just for the fact that the BB weighs like 250 lbs more than a SB, with no real displacement advantage. If it was me, I'd build the big small block, turn the piss out of it, and wave to everyone behind you through the rear window as you run off from them. Blowers can certainly make up for lack of displacement, but at the expense of simplicity and higher cost. Six of one, half dozen of the other I suppose. I guess I just prefer to keep the number of moving parts to the minimum.
No its a steel crank and H beam rods. It's a motor my dad started for a customer but the guy ran out of money and flaked out on the deal so I thought I would use it. As for the heads I have a set of Pro Action's and Dart 200's to pick from also I just was thinking of the no acc hole deal. DW's car is bad ***! I wish my blown alcohol SBC (1300hp)sitting in my garage wasn't a solid motor or I would put it in for a weekend!!!!!! I would build a 400 in a minute my father and I have built quite a few and had very good luck!
