I don't know what to say...I actually agree with Dr.J on something!

It would be a shame to whack that car...it's survived this long and is in great shape.

But safer juice brakes, a lowered stance, an overdrive trans and hop'd up banger would be soooooooo cool. Plus, with a smart driveline, you could drive the thing every day and get great mileage!

People are saying restored model A's are a dime a dozen...but how many do you REALLY see? I see a whole lot more rodded As. I think I mild, '40s rod version would be cool and unique.

Plus, it'd get you a helluva lot more "atta boys" at cruise ins and car shows...which could easily lead to more projects from new-found friends that respect your car.

I think its wrong to cut up a restored car that someone has spent hours on. Why hot rod that tudor when you can find a basket case coupe to hot rod??. My vote is NO... .02c.

I bought the same car pretty much and it's not that slow stock, I survive in SoCal traffic. It's a model A, not a model T. That being said, Hot Rod banger model A's sell for good money and are much more interesting. I'll put it to you this way at mooneyes last year I saw maybe two banger rods. I saw so many V-8 cookie cutter model A's I "couldn't swing a dead cat without hitting one". Take er for as spin with a stromberg , winfield carb or two and you'll be a changed man. Here's my stocker score, I am installing a 100 plus hp ohv conversion as we chat. [IMG]

  6. drive it for a while.

If I was to modify it...put on 16's, 39 trans, hop up the banger and go! Juice brakes and dropped axle later.

I might even go as far to remove the fenders, wrap them up for later use. I like fenderless sedans.

  7. all hotrods start out stock, this ones been made stock again. go ahead and do whats right.

That sounds like a great plan, car looks like a driver as is, not a project. Set a plan that will allow you to have it on the road while you update things. Buy all the parts for juice brakes, EVERYTHING, right down to the cotter pins. That way you could swap out the old mechanicals in a weekend and be ready for a run the next weekend. Same deal with the motor, rear & transmission. Once you blow a car apart it stays apart for years.

Look around for some '35 wire wheels, 4 banger headers and manifold, which are easy to switch out, and a set of custom wheels that you like. That way, you can basically have three cars in one, a stocker, a somewhat 50's custom, or a modern custom depending on the kind of show you are going to, or the look you want at that particular time. The car looks too nice to do anything radical. Just a suggestion. Some of the above pics have good ideas.

  16. NO!

That nice of car should stay stock, and be kept, and driven to church by a little old lady

Chop up ones that are beyond repair, like I do

The last friggin' thing the world needs is another overchopped, channeled to death, wheels past the beltline rolling abortion model A sedan. If it was my car I'd give it a mild lowering, either hop the 4banger or put a flathead in it, juice brakes, lose the bumpers and thats about it.

People want to be so different they all end up the same...

I would enjoy it like it is!

That is me. My best friend used to have a near bone stock (bumpers were jacked with in the 50s by the postal delivery driver original owner and the rear fenders were cut up due to use). That was a FUN little car! We had more fun in it than my Pro-streeted 35. Mannnnnnnnnnnnn was that little car fun!
